All Welcome
For two weeks the woman roamed, free of children at her belly, free of strangers probing the dark of the den. She ate whatever she found, and ran for long miles, letting the hang of her once-heavy figure dissipate. It was not entirely gone by the time Zharille returned to her lake but it was clear what the time away had done to wear her down; she remained strong and proud as she crossed the border at a stalk, as if she had not been gone at all.

She came across Khaba's scent most obviously, and Tarantula's less so but present. There were signs her children survived here still, and she was pleased by this, and bayed a small sound across the stilled water of the lake for any to come and to greet her, their leader. How did her children fare?

hope you don't mind me intercepting!

Something is wrong.
There is a scent near the border, followed by a howl which comes closer the more Zaahira listens. A female, one who smells of the Lake, but only faintly so. She holds a face that is nearly recognizable, yet still foreign. She is looming and ominous, a sight to behold, one that draws a rise of Zaahira's hackles and a rumble from deep within her chest.
She is wary, but not yet aggressive. The line between intruder or friend is thin, and one Zaahira does not yet know where to draw.
Who are you, and why are you here?

A woman climbs the hill to meet her.

For a moment Zharille is stiff and still, her eyes averted but senses cued for movement. She waits to see if this stranger will confront her and drive her back or not, and soon enough an answer comes.

No attack, but a stalling. The woman drifts closer and Zharille lets her gaze slip over their form, to their face, to stare. Her shoulders bristle.

Keeping details and assumptions vague until this thread is completed.

A visitor was at the borders. And, not necessarily a welcome one. Another female. Crossing over their borders without concern. Her scent had only but a hint of the Lake. Nothing more.

Aliki was swift in her march to confront her, but Zaahira had already arrived. An air of unsettled tension still clung in the air between the two coastal wolves. Expected, after the beat down of Selena. But that was in the past, the damage done.

Her immediate concern was this outsider, who so brazenly waltzed on in. Unbeknownst to her, this was the mother of Khaba's cubs. And even if she had known, no doting mother should be forgiven so easily after leaving without a trace. She had believed them orphaned.

Head low between slinking shoulder blades, her hackles stood up in tussled spikes. A hard glare in cold purple eyes. A bold rise of her tail. Despite the frayed emotions between her and Zaahira, she respected her more than this outsider. A deserter of children. She stepped in line, side to side with her in defiant challenge.

By now at 7 weeks of age, Miho was well on her way to becoming an experienced traveler and a very brave girl. At least, this is what she believed as her daily roundabouts were steadily growing in circumference around the den. Sometimes her sisters would join, other times they wanted to be left to their own devices. But today, the child did not care where her siblings had headed off to. This is because today was the day her mother had come home.

The voice was so familiar, and while Miho didn't know exactly why she knew it so well, that didn't stop her from longing to hear it again. To get even closer. The absence of Selena had left the pup to her own devices that day and so she expanded her territory to reach even farther away from the den.

Her legs pushed her as fast as she could go, tightening every few steps to then launch her into tiny hops as she navigated the tall grass. Three women stood faced off, and so she would be the fourth of course. Aliki and another adult she had yet to meet, but who smelled of the Lake, blocked her view of the newcomer. As she was most comfortable around Aliki, the girl slowed her bound and came to a careful crawl to rest behind her. Peeking around, the girl's brow furrowed as she fought to make sense of who she was seeing... but this stranger's scent gave it away. Miho whined excitedly, her tail propelling into a full chaotic wag as her blue eyes widened at the sight of her mother. Momma!

I can't miss this

Sunspots, for the third time since they came to Greatwater Lake, caught the scent of a stranger. As he had done the other times, he followed the scent and came across several wolves. There was Aliki, a wolf she didn't know and a stranger.

As she was about to go to help, he saw a puppy moving towards the stranger. Confused, Sunspots did not dare to stop him. Khaba had been very angry when Sunspots had entered the cubs' den, and he dared not touch any of them.

He hesitated for a moment, but then moved to Aliki's side and bared his fangs with a snarl at the stranger. If that outsider hurt the pup, Sunspots would make her pay.

Before long, a myriad of bodies emerge to flank them both. There is a woman, a shy man, and a child - and it is the child that draws Zharille's attention the most sharply; her nostrils flaring, her tail raises the closer the girl gets until with one decisive step, Zharille moves and separates the cub from the others.

She burrows her nose in to the girl's scruff. There she finds Khaba's scent so strong, and the earth, and so much that is familiar, knowing at once this was her cub. A warm rumble rises from her chest and for the time being, the mother chose to ignore the horde.

7 weeks had passed, and just like her siblings, racharra had grown past the need for milk and hiding in the den. instead, she roamed outside. occasionally she'd use her sisters as pouncing practice for the day she too would be allowed to go on the hunting trips of the seniors. today wasn't that day however, so she stuck around the edges of camp to entertain herself with whatever caught her attention.

racharra had been gnawing on a bone when said attention had been stolen away by the older wolves suddenly gathering around. It wasn't until she'd caught wind of a familiar scent that racharra understood why. mother, she recognized. stubby legs carried her as racharra joined the group to confirm her suspicions. racharra could see miho receiving attention from the wolf, which only fueled this suspicion. her stocky body traversed through the crowd of older wolves to join her sister, and her gaze met the woman.

she could barely remember zharille physically; only the color of her coat and that sharp gaze. the cub had still been far too young at the time to sear her mother's appearance into her mind. but her scent was enough for racharra to confirm to the little pup that this was their mother, and the cub's tail wagged as she bounded up to the woman.
if only my heart were as cold as i pretend it is.
maybe i could get over this
