she's looking for @Germanicus :D but anyone is welcome to stop her really
so she wanted to do something within mereo. that much she had realized.
she had quickly bounced from tierra's side for a moment, assuring her she'd be back later, and went on the hunt for the big grey man. it seemed perhaps best to talk to him first. seeing as he had been the one who had accepted her.
awkwardly, she peered around for him where his scent seemed thickest.

Fennec and Germanicus had spoken extensively about the ranks and what should be prized, how each might be placed. In the process she'd learned a great deal about a culture she'd never known, yet perhaps ironically, one her family roots had gentle ties to.
A part of her found it amusing, but deeper, she admired the way he held to the traditions despite being alone here. She'd made up a dozen different "fake" traditions over the years with her witchcraft but there'd never been one she'd held to or felt any kind of connection to outside of the occasional reading. The Redhawks had always been about family, but nothing else, and when that family was scattered - what was left?
So she'd chosen her title to match his. Hopefully she lived up to it.
Her gardens were more of a pet project than anything else now, but she was on her way to them when she passed near Minne, away from the den she and Germanicus shared. Her ears flicked that way with interest, and she slowed down, but she wouldn't stop her. If Minne had come to speak with the Imperator she might not want a substitute. Fennec had to wonder if any of them would question her position. She didn't give a shit, if she was entirely honest, if they did respect her right away - but she'd also understand the reservations.

hey, actually...
a laugh, a little self deprecating and dry.
fennec, right? congratulations. on the marriage and the promotion.her voice was as genuine as it could be, whip like tail waved side to side behind her.
i don't mean to like immediately plunge you into work, but do you got a minute? i was hoping for a chat about...me, i guess.

Thanks. It was still strange - though not nearly as strange as what came next. She didn’t think anyone had ever come to her for advice before. At least, not like this. But here it was happening twice in a span of as many weeks.
Weirdly, she could get used to this.
I have a few. What were you wondering?Fennec stopped and settled herself comfortably on her haunches, signaling her attention with fully turned ears. Fuck if she knew that she’d actually have a good answer, but it was pretty flattering that she was being approached. She’d wondered more than a few times if the rest of the pack would see her more as a formality than a real asset.

i was hoping to talk about promotions, truthfully. maybe figure out better where i should be if mereo isn't just about soldiers anymore.
which felt awkward and what if she was wrong oh god.
thankfully fennec could not see the brief look of embarrassment on her face. no, minne had to suffer her possible embarrassment in silence!

Oh. Sure, I might be able to.If she could remember the actual names of the ranks, of course. Germanicus’ home language was interesting, to say the least, but she did like the grandiose nature of the titles it provided.
Is there anything in particular you’re interested in? Warriors and scouts are a given, but there’s other things a home base like Mereo needs. Upkeep for supplies and food, teachers for children, healers, messengers, recruiters. She paused, her mouth turning into a slight smile at the last one.
Something tells me that last one isn’t a job Germanicus focuses much on. And I’m pretty shit at it myself.
There were a lot of options. Fennec didn’t know Minne well enough (at all, actually) to know which she might pick, but at least one of those should at least inspire something for her.

minne had never given much thought to things she'd like to do.
a lot of life had been survival. then she had been prepared to be a soldier in exchange for continued survival. now that had opened up further. ever changing was her life it seemed. better than being boring.
she laughed soft, warm. far less self deprecating than usual.

i like doing the social stuff, honestly. i mean, i know i'm not like a ray of sunshine or whatever, but it's been nice hanging out with tierra on social trips. i don't think i'd be very good going far but...seeing neighbors is nice, being supportive in mereo is nice.

If you like supporting the pack, and don't see yourself going far, maybe Cornicen?Fennec recalled back to her conversations with Germanicus. They'd needed a rank for hunters, those who defended the borders at times but also held other skills more directed towards maintaining the grounds. Recruitment could fall into there, as could hunting, and she'd still be free to accompany Tierra on any trips.
You'd be responsible for maintaining food stores and border patrols, when able. Hunting could take you outside the borders, and you'd still have the freedom to provide escort to any who might be traveling farther. But I think it might suit you, for now?Fennec smiled, tilting her head slightly with the question.
She could be promoted to Signifer like Tierra, but the entire focus of that role was travel. Minne seemed more dependable than her sister from this conversation, and more eager to focus on tasks that benefitted everyone here. It would be a waste to have her consistently away delivering messages.

maybe fade? :)
hey, yeah actually. if it doesn't then we can just do this again, yeah?
her voice was bursting with humor, a little sway of her thin tail. it was good to know she could talk with fennec casually about the important things. not that she minded the stiffness of soldier's reporting, but...if mereo wasn't only about soldiers anymore.
well, consider her stuck here.

Sure.It was tempting to drop something like ‘once a year’ or ‘next time it costs double’ but she resisted the urge. She didn’t think it would be taken seriously but Fennec had really enjoyed being come to for this.
She’d head for the borders after parting ways with Minne. The worst part about winter was that her gardens didn’t have much she could do with them… she wondered if there were any winter plants she could consider. Something to look into.
