Firefly Glen not giving in

The hunt really began to unfold from there and Meerkat felt her nerves jangle a little, though looking to Atlas helped her stay calm and focused. He knew what he was doing and that confidence and experience put her at ease too as she tracked his every step, cheering him on silently even as she kept her eyes and ears peeled for any instructions on how to proceed.

Now that they were on the verge of attacking the flock, Meerkat tore her attention away from Atlas and their fellow hunters to really look at their prey. She had seen wild turkeys plenty of times, usually from a distance. They tended to congregate in fields in early morning and late evening. Up close like this, she saw they were quite peculiar, though beautiful in their own way. Their tail feathers in particular captured her fascination.

After scrutinizing the menu, so to speak, she cast her brown eyes afield to check on her brother and Toad. Satisfied that Bronco hadn't been mauled by a fearsome turkey talon, she let her eyes drift back to Atlas. She drank him in as if it had been years, not minutes, since she'd last set eyes on him. There was something so appealing about watching him take charge, she realized. Meerkat's toes began to tingle.
