only post from me, i think!
an attendant carried toula's things. and soon, they were to be off! it felt there were a dozen things to do beforehand, and toula saw each of these things done. Toula had said her farewell to all not accompanying them; in her mouth she carried the trinket given to her by her father, that would protect them. Toula was scarce seen without it!
but before they departed, Toula gestured to an attendant to give to her father the magnificent furs of some felled horn beast. the horns were separated from the skinned thing; the furs had been blessed similarly to the horns that bore the crude carving of Shen. I have been inspired to study symbols further, and learn of blessings; to you, I give this charm of protection. it has been spoken into these furs, too, so that you may sleep well without mother. we are with you, always, her bright eyes searched the features of her father, nothing but love there. I will of course continue to pray for you and for Akashingo during my travels; and perhaps Basilica will allow me to build an altar there, she dreamed aloud to him, tail waving behind her. it would help her feel even closer to Iset, she felt. who she spoke with as though a sister, or her mother!
but then, it was time to go! picking up her own trinket of good fortune, she showed it to him with a small smile before turning to go with her mother after she had said her own goodbyes.
how had her sister managed it? she was not yet gone and yet she felt homesick already! yet the promise of adventure, and her mother alongside her, steadied her. to her credit, toula did not cry—
though she did pause to look back, warmed to see her fathers watchful silhouette present. it was as though the eye of Ra had touched her; emboldened, she picked up the pace and danced merrily after her mother.
