All Welcome
So… perhaps she had never been in love. Perhaps she had only felt quite jilted in the new rush about the palace that had her loved ones occupied as of late.

But still!

She was an instrument of yearning, flowing with a ravenous desire for fulfillment she did not understand, craving affections.

“Mother— I’m dying!” The girl cries, flinging herself into @Toula’s stone room and collapsing dramatically over her parents’ bedfurs.

she thought she knew fear well—the dread that lingered in the pit of one’s belly before a task not only new, but terrible. it turned out she was only acquainted with it. whatever it was she had thought paled in comparison to what she felt in hearing her daughters words!
Toula stood over her daughter, sniffing restlessly for any telltale signs of impending death. nothing, nothing that she could see—where does it hurt, my little love?

Everywhere,” the princess moans, writhing. She grasps at her chest with a paw. “Here.”

“Mom, I'm afraid... I’ve wounded one I love,” her eyes squeeze shut, raw with grief.  For all her days, for all her lifetimes, she would never recover!

no mortal wound could be seen, though as her daughter gestured to her chest Toula moved to look more thoroughly. no, still no blood—but as her daughter went on, understanding dawned!
tell me everything, came her gentle voice, soft and soothing—she settles alongside her distressed daughter and wraps a loving arm around her to bring her closer to her own heart! she bends, moving to softly kiss away any tears that might come from her daughters clenched eyes.
one she loved! who, Toula wondered? there might be many—her daughters heart was made so much like her own!

Stoicism perseveres only until Merneith feels her mother’s consoling embrace, at which point she promptly bursts into tears that would have been unthinkable if she had been in the arms of anyone but Toula.

“Ch— he doesn’t love me,” she chokes, agonized. She knew she had been begging for him! Had wanted to lay her face against his tawny furs, to be held in something more than a look.

“Oh mother, you should have seen his face! He was horrified! He called her love a treasure, but he would not accept it!

Finally her eyes open upon Toula’s, a cascade of tears spilling out along her cheeks as they do, “how can I love someone so much who cannot love me back?”

who could not love her daughter?! she did not believe it! it was an impossibility! but to hear her speak further surprised the Pharaoh, who saw, with a mothers discerning eye, the source.
when had Toula ever been in love, other than Rashepses? who was this being that had caught the divine eye of her daughter? she begins to preen at her golden girls crown (head) as she listens, thinking—oh! isn’t my little girl too little to endure this heartbreak now!
my darling, our hearts are built to love—even when we may not be loved in turn. think on it: my heart holds room for all of Akashingo, but also for your father—and for you, and your brothers and sisters, she explains, drawing her daughter close to dote upon her, but you must be careful where you place your love, when it comes to who shall be your own beloved. for like myself, you are destined for more than something common—than someone who would not love you as you love them, but oh, she is grateful to this man of mystery—he must have known his place, he must have understood the order of the things—but also, respected the sanctity of her daughters youth!
your love is your power. there is no other who can love like you, Benerib. keep the love for your special one close to your chest—it is a sacred thing, she smiled upon her golden girl, quiet now—listening. has she said too much? had she said enough? oh! she did not know!
