i have no self control. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the flora of the coast is almost exotic in its lack of familiarity to him. it is this that draws him in; moth to flame. even the air smells different; like fish and decay and tangy salt. always seeking new flora to add to his 'garden of eden' of which he intends to fill with poisons. medicines if used in the right ways, sure ...but he wasn't interested in healing. not really. perhaps in a different life, with different blood coursing through his veins. but he is a proud melonii — even for all the baggage and unsavory traits that trickle shamelessly down the family tree he is but a leaf of — and mephala has him too deep in her clutches; spidery limbs piercing the flesh and bone until he is apart of her and she apart of him.

to sever the daedra prince from him would be to sever his own head from body.

the sun plays hide n' seek above with the clouds; lighting his path into the treasure trove that surely awaits him. it is only the scent of many, of borders that stops him this time; lesson learned. harvesting for the serpent's garden would have to wait. proper channels must first be navigated. his head tips skyward and he lets out a howl announcing his presence.

On edge with all the happenings lately, he was quick to find the source of the call that mostly called for the leaders of the pack and not their resident knight who guarded the borders. His mauled half existing face is the first to greet the stranger who would not be attacked - no, they at least announced themselves and did not skulk around his home, nor did they cross the borders.

This is Rusalka. I am their Gamma... His tone suggested he would call for Rosalyn, Erzulie, and or Anningan if necessary and that for now, this stranger's audience was him. Why do you call? His posture was guarded but relaxed, ready to pounce into action but willing to listen. His relaxed expression severely contrasting the marred and perpetually snarling side; two sides of the same coin.

rusalka.

the man with half a face greets with the name of the territory, followed by his title. he is a gruesome sight ...but in the face of this twoface the silencer does not wither. he is no stranger to seeing gruesome scars. his mother. his father. both marked ...though not near to the extent of this man. fascination, instead, claims him, evidenced in the soft cant of his head. how does he eat? wouldn't the majority of his food just fall out of his mouth? how does his bone not rot and dry?

for now he ignores the burning questions.

i am interested in a place to put down roots.

Someone who wants to join. Well, that was good news for their low numbers, that was... What can you offer us if we allow you to join? If they were useful. After Cupid, Rosencrantz was cautious around newcomers and how much they were willing to bring to the table. With puppies around and more to come, they had to be cautious with who they let into their borders - if they would be helpful, detrimental, or just plain a leech who would suck all their resources from the puppies maws.

This is no place for parasites. His eye was hardened as he gazed at the stranger with heavy scrutiny. Though the stranger looked capable, there was a difference between capable of doing something, and willing to do so in the name to better the pack and its people.

expectantly comes the inquiry of skills. in the end, that was what they were all after: skills. of course, no one wants someone who is a taker and not a giver. ideally, there should be a balance. i can fight, kjalarr, of course, saw to that. it was how they survived, his father had told him and he was certainly built for it even if he did not utilize his physical prowess in the ways kjalarr had wished him to. ...and his usefulness as a fighter seems like it might give him more of an edge than his penchant for horticulture. my true interest lies in the more naturalist trades. horticulture. ...plants. unsure how much he should share he does not immediately offer up the true destination of what plants he is interested in. for now 'plants' was general and true enough to suffice.

Will you fight for us? Defend the borders? Again, its a matter of willingness over capable. Would you kill for us? The words were harsh as they came boiling out from his splitting maw, saliva dribbling from the lipless side without his ability to take control over it. Regardless of what he thought, the ultimate decision came down to what their titled leaders thought of this new face. Rosencrantz himself would keep an eye on this one to make sure he was true to his words - but for now, the rest would come from their leaders.

With a booming call, he called for their leaders @Aningan, @Rosalyn, and @Erzulie if she was able to get some time away from the puppies to join him in judging this individual for their ranks. Until one of them would arrive, he would be here to keep an eye and be a companion to the stranger knocking on their door.

her children were old enough now to sleep for longer stretches of time, though erzulie kept herself close at hand. it was convenience or the work of the loa that had set her already upon a short patrol when rosencrantz sent a summons for her.
with quiet clementine keeping a watchful eye upon her sisters, the voodooiene paced herself at a worthwile gait to the borders, where she gave the archangel an affectionate butt of her crown before turning mismatched gaze upon the stranger before them.
here too, an asymmetry. she hummed beneath her breath, keeping silent as she drank in the silent violence of his powerful build. this one was dangerous. but he was also imbued with a strength erzulie recognized as beyond this coil.
"what be your name?" she uttered in a firm tone, seeking the blanched-purple glint of the newcomer's face.

yes. the silencer replies; honest. raw. yes, he will defend their borders ...because if they take him into their fold it is where he will plant the seeds of his poisonous garden. not that ...he thought anyone would be brave enough to just eat plants without knowing what they were. yes, he will kill for them. killing was not anything he blanched at. violent deaths or subtle deaths of poison. morals lay in a vastly grey and shifting area.

it is not long before a woman approaches, presumably a leader as the twoface calls for them. out of some misplaced courtesy, kvasir pretends not to notice the fly of spittle. i have so many... kvasir. veloth. vivec. kvasir. it was the one he went by mostly these days — ironic though he swears no allegiance to his father's culture or religious beliefs.

I'll hold you to that. He reassured darkly before turning his attention to Erzulie as she offered an affectionate head butt. At first, her actions were strange - but as time went on and she kept repeating them, he grew accustomed to it all as a way they simply showed appreciation to him as one fo them. Not wanting to break character in front of the stranger, Rosencrantz remained stoic and passionless as Erzulie began her own part in all of this.

From here, he would remain simply as a guard to the mother while she questioned Kvasir. Erzulie was capable to defend herself, but assuming she was still tired from childbirth, he chose to remain at her side.

kvasir. a cold name from a cold place. she did not know it, but by his pelage he must have arrived from some polar locale like aningan. the thought of the young leader brought an inward smile, but erzulie kept herself outwardly composed.
"dis be rusalka. your strengt' would be best used warding away de strangers who approach our outer borders." away from the little ones — for the time being.
with the sea to their backs, that meant only three sides that must be patrolled. but it was an expansive land.
"you appear to be a fighter. what else do you bring, kvasir?" erzulie inquired, gaze warming a degree.

kvasir, though never willingly asked for the information — always more interested in potema's origins and faith and culture — knew that his father expected him to learn how to fight. as he and his father before him. it wasn't an option. the silencer takes no offense to her assumption, correct as it was either way. he could patrol borders — it might give him the opportunity to scout for plants on the down low ...so long as, understandably, it did not conflict with actual patrols. unwelcome, he was good at ...if not intimidation. i understand. he murmurs to the leader in acknowledgment; ears cupping forth as she asks what else he could bring to them.

i'm a naturalist. plants are my specialty. ironic that someone so obsessed with poisons and how they become plagues of pestilence and death likes the challenge of nurturing them to life.

The howl of summoning reached out to the male but not quickly enough, his presence not the first to be made; he was hardly close, far off towards the shore, but made as quick work of the land as he could. By the time he made his approach, the conversation was already well underway, Erzulie handling the stranger as well as those that came before him. He caught the end of the exchange with his arrival, hearing words of strength and plants—how the two went together, if they did, he was unsure; Aningan was not even partially versed in the handling of plants, hardly able to tell shrub from sapling.

For now, knowing nothing of the specialty presented, the Inuk moved to stand near to his Beta; the matching part to pair with his fellow alabaster statue.
Characters are more than welcome to mistake Aningan for a polar bear.
A snowy owl can also be noted hanging around with Aningan, usually in the trees or sky, unless stated otherwise in my posts.

Late - but at least Aningan made it here this time around. It seemed after their last encounter the Alpha was finally coming around to do more - perhaps it was a wake-up call or coincidence, but regardless, it was good to see some change finally instead of back to the usual absent male (again, this is only what Rose sees and thinks!).

As Aningan arrived, Rosencrantz took it as his cue to leave and continue on his patrol should anyone else be found skulking around the borders while their primary guardians are now here welcoming the new member. With a nod to all three of them to acknowledge his departure, the guardian was off to continue on his route.

Edit May 22, 2020: Edited this as Rose's departure post so he may claim it as a guardian thread!

a silent sort. she was accustomed to it with rosencrantz, and so this kvasir would fit well into the quieter role of men within rusalka. at his mention of plants, the woman's eyes lit with a palpable glow. "den we be well met in de world of green t'ings."
seeing no reason to deny him a place, erzulie nevertheless paused as the young alpha of rusalka came to stand alongside her. a dip of her muzzle; eyes traveled back to the fierce botanist. "i t'ink dis man, kvasir, will make a good addition," the harlot purred sidelong to aningan, "but de decision is your own."
pleased to defer a moment, erzulie fell into an affable silence. aningan was a capable leader, she believed; he had only to reach out and take what was his.
