Joining

Of all the things that could've screwed over Kaster's plans to live at peace with his temporary stead, it had to be the same fucking snow storm he was sure he'd be able to avoid at the time. The very same snow storm that had driven him away from the pack during a hunt, and now it seemed like it was too late to return anyhow. Rivenwood was no longer here, and the farther east he traveled, the deeper he delved into a dead end. The broken boulder was empty, and there were no scent that lead him back to where Mahler's claim had been. The woodlander may have been absent since Winter, but he remembered where the place was.....

If there was one lesson he'd learn during his younger days, however, is that life will not wait for you to sit and dwell on what could've been -- that's how fools waste away and die. The woodlander was not going to wander around wondering if his predictions about Rivenwood falling out of existence was correct, and he was done searching as well -- it was time he sought out a new way of living.

Outside the borders of Duskfire is where Reinhardt had found himself, though unbeknownst to him whether or not this claim would accept him in. He simply waited -- for someone to appear out the shadows. One part of Kast felt hopeless about this and wanted to leave, though the stubborn part of him caused him to stay and wait.

So he waited.

often as the wraith is found at the borders, it seems only expected that he should discover the stranger before the others. he spots the male from a distance, and his pace picks up, hackles prickling at the audacity of one lingering so near without calling for an audience. yet he remains stoic, gaze scrutinizing and lacking emotion as he approaches the stranger. you've found the border of duskfire glacier, the wraith tells him, posture high and proud. what do you seek here, and why do you linger at the border without announcing yourself?

Snagging this with a preggers Tzi. <3

Tzila may not have been at the top of the hierarchy, putting her in a position to accept or deny outsiders, but that didn't stop her from making an appearance at the borders. She had enough experience in pack life to know an investigation like this should not be ignored. With that experience and her naturally assertive nature, there was little to stop her from taking initiative, as any leader would.

Those who had paid attention to her closely over the weeks that went by, and with whom she had spoken to, would know that despite the bulge in her belly, that she was not the type of wolf to let something like pregnancy weigh her down. As a strong and capable woman, she liked to keep busy and active. Tending to her duties with a near militant like regimen. Only when she was so bloated that she could barely move, ready to burst, would she give in and rest.

Ahead of her, a glimmer of silver. The form Zephyr ahead of her and a cream and earthen stranger. Sliding up next to her packmate, her stride proud and tail held upright, she looked down her muzzle at the outsider. Silver eyes sharp and critical, facial features unreadable but expectant. She was waiting, and with limited patience.

Yee :D

One of the wolves who'd eventually approach was a strange one -- at a distance, they could've been mistaken as a coyote by the exaduratted ears, but only as they got closer and their scent became condensed would he realize that the scent of wolf was on her as well. A combination of both creatures -- one that confused him but wasn't dwelled on for to long.

The she-wolf's body language in particular demanded explanation on his presence, and if the situation were any different, the archer probably wouldn't have bothered to filter his slick tounge by nature. Though the situation wasn't different, and he actually wished to make a good impression without showing his jack-ass side in the first 5 seconds of trying to join.

So he stood calmly, glacier blues searching the scenery behind the ice woman rather than meeting eye contact -- he knew how this game usually went. "Pondering," he stated simply "--on whether I should stay to make a call or leave. Duskfire Glacier is what this claim is called,  then?"

The woodlander would then move closer, but only by a few steps as to not cross the borders, or close too much distance between them. Soon, another woman would join the fray. Just in time for him to introduce himself it seems, but just as impatient-looking as the first. "I am called Kaster." It was best to keep things simple and formal for the present then, at least hoping things would go swimmingly.

"Do you lead two this claim then? I wish to join your numbers if allowed."

it does not take wintersbane terribly long to reach the stretch of borders where the stranger waits, but he was beaten by both zephyr and tzila who were the first to intercept him. strange, thinks the tundrian, to linger at the glacier's borders but not call. territorial to an ugly fault while his young grew within the wombs of some of the glacier's, his hackles bristle and he approaches with purpose; heavy steps and lift of chin making clear even as the question drifts thru the air following the name 'kaster' that it is he who rules here.

an icy king to rule an icy kingdom.

i am wintersbane, he announces. what skills could you bring to the glacier? he does not capitalize upon the fact that very soon they will have young in their ranks but it is, to his chagrin, evident enough. it meant that he had no time and duskfire glacier had no use for wolves that could not — or would not — contribute.

skippable for the next round!
he isn't impressed by the response. the indecision hardly speaks well to the stranger's reliability, nor does the swiftness with which he offers his loyalty; if it were up to zephyr, the introduction alone would be enough to send kaster away. but it isn't. the wraith is quickly reminded of this by wintersbane's arrival, which interrupts any chance he might have had to respond. upon noticing his alpha, he lowers his own posture and steps back in a show of deference that doubtlessly clears up any confusion surrounding who is in charge here, keeping his eyes trained on kaster and his posture tense nonetheless. he's more than ready to chase him from the borders, should wintersbane deem him unfit — but he'll respect the alpha's decision in the end.

Her jaw clenched. A soft rumble that was not quite a growl stirred in the back of her throat. She did not appreciate those of an indecisive nature. Zephyr seemed to feel the same way. Just after the male introduced himself as Kaster, Wintersbane arrived. He proclaimed his rank that left no doubt, his welcome bordering on hostile. Kaster was quite literally, treading on thin ice.

At his side, Tzila leaned in to press her shoulder and flank against that of the Tundrian's. A show of affection, but more so, of unity. A symbol of the ties that stretched deep within this pack. The snug velvet hair lining her muzzle was tense, ready to brandish her weapons in a split second. Un-yielding, she remained in place, all too willing to send him packing should he fail to meet the expectations of Wintersbane. But she was patient, willing to at least hear his case.

A taggeth for referenceth

Was he treading on thin ice?
Yes, it appeared so.

His indecisive approach was not well recived, and it would appear he managed to piss off the whole trio who had arrived from the borders. As a part of him would've guessed, this attempted initiation was probably not going to bide well. Unfortunately, Kaster was not known for his attached side either -- such a thing had been suppressed and practically nonexistent ever since his familial attachments had failed him. He would not be able to sympathize the pre-existing bond that ran in this pack before and any attempt to do so would be bull-shitting on his part. He was simply not concerned with it.

Though one didn't necessarily need these things in order to prove their work ethic and reliability, and that's what Kaster came here to do. He did not need to be favored in order to do his job and provide, yes?

So he turned to greet the larger man who approached with a bowed head, his size almost reminding him of a certain someone he'd met during the winter seasons, lest for the contrasting pelt colors and lack of an accent. "Wintersbane," the woodlander repeated, attempting to get in touch with the Tundrian's name. "I am primarily a hunter, second a guardian if need be," Kaster would state calmly, raising his cranium up to, again, cast his icy gaze towards the scenery behind the three. He was a trained hunter with a body formed for the sport due to prior history. The instinct to guard what belonged to him came naturally with his food aggression and overall "fuck the fuck off my fucking shit." personality.

Which briefly reminds him of his run in with @Kigipigak, but this is quickly brushed off.

"I can provide your pack with an extra food supplier," assuming there were hunters residing here, "--and someone who can protect your borders if needed." And he assumed so as well. The strong, hormonal smell of pregnancy was not hard to miss from this group -- there were soon-to-be den mothers here. He watched one of them brush against the leader's side. 'Ça doit être sa femme...' , Kast thought to himself...

wintersbane was not aware what caused the unease in zephyr and tzila with the stranger at their borders and even if he had been he wouldn't have been too fussed about the reasoning. wolves came and they went — that was the nature of the beast; though lingering at his borders did prickle at his nerves.

both skills would be welcome. wintersbane admits. hunter would especially be a huge help in the months to come and even if kaster decided his stay was only temporary ...wintersbane could hardly stand to turn away the extra set of teeth. be it adding to the caches or chasing away unwelcome loiterers. duskfire glacier is a sanctuary for those who call it home. i expect you to contribute, especially in the coming months when the glacier will fill with the next generation.

it was the same thing he asked out of anyone; himself included.

if you feel that the glacier suits you and could be your home then you are welcome.
