Nonetheless, it still shook her slightly to be met with such unfriendliness. Sobo glowered at her and Meerkat let her eyes drop, drawing in a breath before looking back up at him.

She offered a patient smile. Meerkat Redhawk, she replied. She found she badly wanted to win him over, preferably without patronizing him. She’d struck a rapport with the Duskfire youths in part because of their young ages. It stood to reason that it might be a little more challenging with wolves on the cusp of adulthood, even without any preconceived notions.
