As if cued by the gossip, the Redhawk matriarch appeared and approached. Caracal’s whole face lit up and he bounced on his heels as his mom greeted him. He let out a whoosh of laughter when she immediately mentioned Killdeer. He knew his favoritism didn’t bother Towhee; she was just as fond of the boy, after all.

’Kay, he agreed readily when invited to visit Towhee’s den. He threw an elbow at Tierra, hoping she’d come along too, then bounded after their mother. He threw an appreciative glance around at the surrounding canyon as they moved toward its interior, though his attention quickly returned to Towhee.

Partner? he echoed a little incredulously to her own mention of Maxim, wondering just what the heck that meant, when she said something far more interesting. Wait!? What!? I’m gonna be a big brother!?
