Oh, here we go.  Through the layers of despondence, Fennec felt a small flicker of anger stoke, and she grabbed it and fed it until her stare hardened.  He had no right to anything from her, least of all the frustration she heard in his tone.  The dim weird hollowness of the past few days was terrifyingly new, but anger was comfortingly familiar.  She let it sink in and wrapped herself in it, holding it with all her might in the hope it might keep the other feeling at bay.

Her breath quickened again, straining the collapse and catching in the pressure in way that only made her all the more frustrated.  She wanted to lambast him, to send him back to the Glen, but she couldn't.  Not without stumbling and wheezing over her fucking words in a way that would invalidate all of them.

No.  She responded, in as firm a tone as she could manage.  The effort hurt.  She curled in instinctually, features twisting slightly, then waited.  Maybe he'd just leave.
