She made it plain as day that it was not a classically romantic arrangement, though it still made Caracal feel a little funny. Was this faceless man his stepdad now…?

Pushing that thought aside, he grinned. I’m happy for you, mom! Mostly, he was excited about younger siblings, though he wouldn’t begrudge Towhee her partner either, even though Caracal didn’t really understand how that worked—the business partnership, not how babies were made! He knew how that was done and cringed when the thought of his mom doing that floated through his mind.

I’m actually apprenticing with a lady named Lane; she’s teaching me how to be a medic.
