Sun Mote Copse waves pulling me

A pair of ducks winged past overhead. Meerkat noticed Njord looking up at them, though she didn’t bother. She glowered into the copse instead, her eyes distant. Her husband remarked on the birds, or at least that’s what Meerkat assumed before his words abruptly registered.

Her expression quickly slackened into surprise as her gaze found his. She could use a distraction, though she hadn’t anticipated this! Her eyes wandered back and forth between his, a tentative smile already pulling at her lips. They often exchanged declarations of love, though this was something else entirely.

I would like that, mo ghrá, she murmured, the shadows vanishing from her eyes as they brightened. Did I say that right? Is that even the right term? She snorted lightly before adding, I love you dearly too, and stretching to plant a kiss on her husband’s roughened cheek.
