Merrick seemed... happy. It made Toad happy in turn. Merrick was not the most comedic guy out there, but his smiles were frequent, and yet only rarely did they meet his burning eye. So the energy of joy that hummed through the gathering met Toad's heart equally, and he puffed his chest almost proudly as the bear-king uttered his parting words. With a final nod to Merrick, as well as a polite glance to Ulysses and Astara, the coffee cream boy slipped away to continue familiarizing himself with the valley.

Ursus was blessed, Evien thought, though he still felt a stab of unease at the idea that Merrick and Leila were to be parents. Merrick looked happy enough, though, and perhaps that meant he was coming to terms with the idea. A slow nod was the healer's response to the announcement and he got to his feet to walk away, offering a slow wag of his tail in approval. If anyone needed him, they could find him later.
i'm going to bring it all back to you

blessed -- or cursed. astara did not find the beasts in her belly a blessing; they were something else, yet time had a way of showing just what mettle they were made of.

the blackbird remained still as others dispersed, though her gaze lingered on ico as he bid her congratulations. such a twisted world -- was it a good thing to bear children? her muzzle twisted in a thin line silently, disappearing as her bear returned to her side.

where he belonged.

her rueful gaze scathingly landed upon ulysses then, as if gloating -- wordlessly she turned aside and prowled off, the flick of her tail the only sign merrick was invited near.
