A bit of her hoped for an offer. She couldn't help it. Even as she was convincing herself she needed to take some time, she was hating the thought of doing it. Even with Fig as a constant, she just felt lonely. She'd felt that way for months.

That wasn't really his problem though, was it? I'll give a little honesty back. I think two is all I've got. And even if I had more, I'm probably the last wolf who should be aiming them at you. She was a mess. And for once she couldn't afford to risk making him second guess this. Especially not after this conversation.

She didn't know what else to say. She could ask, but then she'd be right where she started. Besides, Fig wouldn't get it. He didn't like Penn much either, and she was already dragging him around like lost luggage. This hollow, aching sadness that came with the thought of letting him leave sucked, but not worse than any of the rest of it. She'd be fine.
Fenn is blind, and as she's older, will take all of her character insight from tone.  If you are ever uncomfortable with an assumption she makes, please let me know!
