the problem was that chani was no longer sure how to be useful.

Jean-Heron had just launched himself off of the "sleeping" Svalinn's hip and landed squarely on @Cheri's back when Chani arrived. @Roux and @Èlosie were likewise used as stepping stones, as he bowled his way to their big sister, clown paws flapping.
Yet unable to engage the brakes of his bodily vehicle, he careened headlong into Chani, temporarily rendering himself upside down.
Eager to claim it for himself, he awkwardly attempted to straddle the bones and drag them away from everyone else.
