When they had crossed the borders of the creek on their return, Akavir had only felt exhaustion. Seeking the den his children resided, he spoke only a few shared words with @Arric—indicating at most that he did not have the emotional mindset to discuss much of anything right now—soon, he would try to divulge what he could to the man.

What he needed lay within the confines of the space, and he felt a creeping sense of unease being within yet another enclosure, though his mind pressed thoughts away of Akashingo.

Instead, he pulled a sleeping trio of puppies to him—all three, youthful enough still that they could remain drowsily asleep as he did so. In his arms—this was where they belonged.

Within the darkness of the den, the fallen man buried his muzzle to the softness of their puppy fur, breathing in their scents. There, in the darkness, if there was a wetness upon his cheeks as he held this moment so close to his heart, he would never speak of it.
