Days passed in a blur for Wylla. Cluster feedings became less and less frequent, affording her greater lengths of time to sleep between the demands of her pups, but three was still a lot and took a lot of her time. @Emmerich in particular was difficult. He was so eager to feed that he gnashed his gums against her teats with bruising force, and when he wasn't feeding, he whined at all hours of the day. She wasn't always able to figure out what he was upset about, and eventually decided that he was simply vocalizing for the hell of it.

@Anselm was a perfect little angel in comparison to his brother and sister. She had no real complaints about him and once or twice, when her nerves were rubbed raw from lack of sleep and the pain of nursing, wondered why they couldn't all be like him.

Already the green stain from her little daughter's fur was nearly faded away, but Wylla's early coddling of @Isa came with its own consequences. Isa needed to be close to her at all times. She cried inconsolably when Wylla had to leave to void her bladder or get a drink of water. She cried at the drop of a hat over the littlest inconveniences. Wylla sincerely hoped that like Emmerich, it was just a phase that she would get over.

Suffice it to say, her days were not glamorous, but it was almost all worth it when she stirred in the early morning to check in and saw not one, not two, but three little pairs of dark eyes blinking awake. Oh, Wylla breathed, casting her face toward the entry as though to call @Mahler in, but he was likely on patrol or catching some much needed shut eye. Without a proper pack to support the puppies, he was doing a lot of the work himself, leaving him little time for anything else. She regretted saddling him with that responsibility, but soon enough he would be the one to stay behind and watch the littles while she got back to work. He would come and see them when he could.

Hello, she cooed down at their scrunched up faces, snorting with amusement at how they tried to bury them into her fur. It never ceased to make her laugh how they reacted to their very first sights. Although she knew they were uncoordinated and couldn't really see it, Wylla stuck her tongue out and waggled it at them, then chuckled and brought her face down close for them to inspect.

Mama's here, she whispered, blowing warm air over them and making them blink rapidly.
