What good was a home, if home was an empty hearth?

Anselm's gaze swept over the hollow. A murkwater fog bled from its edges, the silhouette of distant peaks a raw bruise color. Emmerich had not returned. Mahler and Wylla had not returned.

No one was coming back.

Etienne had not returned.Anselm feared that the siren widow had snared Etienne and sunk her harpy claws into the healer's heart. Now, it was just him and the hollow.

And he supposed Fiona was still around -- but he did not enjoy having his psyche peeled back like layers of flesh, and the clinical way she often watched him made his blood boil. To her, he left the hollow and its hideous curse -- may it take from you everything it took from me.

He rose, breath tumbling out from his tense jaws. Etienne and Heda's scents had long faded from here, but Anselm knew the direction they traveled.

Sometime in the last hour Anselm had decided that the world had stolen from him many things.

This time, he was fighting back.
