the turquoise-eyed woman spoke, but it was plain to mahler that this was not her first altercation with the child. when the darker of the pair turned away, the gargoyle bristled with indignation, both on their behalf and in regards to the lax way they allowed the pup to comport himself in so ugly a manner.
"it is not a mother he needs," the brute muttered, lip curling as he turned his stone-lilac glare upon the boy, and uttered a low growl, intending to fully grasp the little brat's attention. "you are a shameful creature. are you a suckling pup upon the teat? no? these are your leaders. they deserve respect." 
even if they do not command it, mahler added grimly to himself, straightening to return his attention to the wolfesses. "thank you. " there was little reason to explain why he had asked; it was plain that the nightjar and her sand-hued companion were quite occupied with the situation at hand.
