Disclaimer: I do not own Greek and Roman Myths and Legends, though I wish I did. Wolf-adaption/interpretation, however, is entirely mine.

"In Greek legends Charon is the faithful servant of the Underworld and the first person one meets after dying," Wraen bega to retell one of the tales her mom had shared during her childhood. It was said that her grandfather had come from a long line of wolves, who had believed the old gods and order of the world. And, while his granddaughter was not as ardent follower, she still enjoyed (and so did her author, who is currently hooked on Greek and Roman Myths) the way Greeks had had a divine explanation and name for everything. "Kind of like we do now - except - if I was Charon and you the soul, who has to be guided through the two rivers Styx and Acheron, you would have to pay me something. And - naturally - you have to be buried properly, according to the rituals. No, passing out with your face in the meal or where no one can find you," she added a humorous note to an otherwise serious tale. "So my ancestors always put something valuable in the grave of their deceased. Or, if they were unable to burry him, then they left a piece of meat or bone next to the body," she did not know, if they really did, but that had been the ritual explained to her. And she imagined that they must have. 

"So - if all was right and you paid Charon, he took you to the next deity of the Underworld, where one's good deed were weighed against the bad," she continued. "However, if you had nothing to pay for the ride or were not buried accordint to the proper rites, then your soul was doomed to wander the banks of the rivers for eternity and never be able to move on," and just as she said this a very strong gust of wind passed between them and disappeared just as suddenly as it had appeared. "Any questions on this?" she asked, contemplating now the details of the story about hydra and the guy, who had slayed it.
