Can characters have three specialties under one trade?

I would like to hear opinions of other members and PMs and CMs especially about this particular sentence in the Guidebook regarding number of specialties characters can acquire.

Characters* may claim up to 2 trades with a total of 3 specialties distributed between the two trades.

I read it that I cannot have more than 2 specialties under one trade, if I want a third, I need to acquire a different trade or exchange one existing specialty for another. 

However, it does not say directly, that you cannot have 3 specialties under one trade. 

Which one is it? Has there ever been a limit regarding the number of specialties under one trade?
