The boy could neither see nor hear, but he could feel- and his instincts told him to stay warm and to fill his belly. He was quite content to stay right where he was, by his mother’s side, while his parents talked over both him and his sister. He could feel the gentle vibrations of his mother’s voice through her side, and found it comforting.

He released his tiby mouth’s grip on his mother just after she’d spoken- long enough to emit a cute but wet burp, almost perfectly timed in response to the name she’d spoken. Content, and with a bit less gas in his belly, he nuzzled back against his sister and heaved a sigh.
