Bronco panted as he put in an effort to keep pace, veering away from Toad so that she might have a shot of weeding her way amongst the herbivores and putting a halt on the one they'd singled out, so that he could catch up and make a lunge at it. He trailed behind, still following behind the stragglers, watching as Toad closed the ground between them and the deer. She wasn't as quick as he'd thought she might be- he recalled seeing how his friend Vallkyrie could run, and assumed that she would probably have been able to outpace both him and Toad with ease- but she got close enough to bite at the juvenile's ankle and cause its pace to slow even more.

When it stumbled, Bronco flattened his ears and surged forward, hitting his top speed within strides and used the energy he'd managed to save up to draw even with the deer while its head bobbed with its lunging, pained strides. It lurched away from him and his first snap missed- but it wasn't in vain. In trying to avoid him, the deer stumbled again, having been made lame by whatever had caused it injury before and now, with the strike Toad had managed at its ankle. When it stumbled again, Bronco lunged, and grabbed it by the windpipe, using his body weight to bring its momentum to a dramatic, but messy halt as it feebly tried to stand, held in place by the predator clasping its neck.

Its jaw worked in a futile effort to pull in air, but Bronco held fast, clenching his jaws down and cutting off its airway. Stunned, in pain and in the threshold of shock, it struck out lamely with one of its forefeet, catching Bronco in the shoulder but he simply used that moment to haul the deer sideways, sending them both crashing to the ground where he could get a better hold on its neck, pinning it while its life slowly faded from lack of oxygen.
