He didn’t even notice the still, dark figure in the water, who was upwind of him at the time. He carefully waded into the waters until he was up to his knees in the cold water, and began to wait.

He asssumed the trick was patience, though staring at the surface of the water was somewhat mesmerizing, and started to make him tired. The only thing that kept him from teetering over and falling asleep was the gnaw of cold water against his legs.
