She might have sought to avoid him, too, if she did not see his hurts as visibly as she did—and not just speaking of the mental state, but of his bloodied visage. Her own morose expression would tell him plenty, too—that while her tone might have been harsh at the moment, she felt nothing but hurt for it in the end.

Though their leaving had shaken her, too, she trusted Gannet nonetheless if only because he still remained despite it all.
