She drew in a soft breath, one paw going still mid-air as she paused in her stride. Reverie contemplated the foliage beneath her dangling paw for a moment, the delicate mix of moonworts and monkeyflowers interspersed with bright new grass, and eventually let her soft pink pads settle atop the flurry. She stared at the flowers crushed beneath her foot a heartbeat longer before she spoke.

Too many things to name, Reverie sighed, eyes finding Petal now. She'd wanted to shield them longer than this, protect them as she had Blossom. But Blossom had been ill-equipped to face life by the time Reverie had been ready to let her stand on her own. It had to be different this time. Her daughters needed to be prepared.

It's not really safe anywhere, She admitted next, beckoning her daughter along as she started forward again. Her nose dipped in search of scents — and flowers! But we're - safer if we stick together. Just us.

Soon they'd gone far enough, and Reverie halted again, this time with intent. She turned to Petal with solemn eyes, and reached up with a paw to loosen the rabbit fur wrapped around her throat. Dusty Rose had helped her put it on, and she expected she would need help again — but this was important.
