@Hydra - Fox Punting thread!

Kane had spent most of the morning wandering about the inner dens where most of the wolves slept. With the borders all clearly marked for the day, Kane had little left to do along them to keep them up. The earthen male was at least satisfied he would not need to return until tomorrow. Or the day after. Normally, the scent of the borders were kept up well for a few days since most of everyone traveled them. Kane made it a point to check them every two to three days with how many others patrolled them. The territory was vast. So even traveling at a lope, patrolling and marking borders took a good part of the day to do.

Kane could smell the whelping den from where he was. Hydra had been there since birth caring for the new offspring. It made Kane proud that he could be a part of the pack and holding a responsibility of caring for the young ones. He never had children himself, though he hoped one day he might. Dirge must be proud. Kane came within sixty feet of the entrance, ensuring that Hydra would not feel threatened by his presence. Some women did because other males would eat the offspring or kill them for another chance to breed. Kane was not like that and wouldn't ever be like that. He would wait until he was invited to come closer to the den.

In the meantime, Kane turned to sit and look out along the horizon, as if acting as a guard for the den. Nothing would get by him while he sat there. He wouldn't allow it. Even though a small fox was in the area, Kane didn't even notice it as he thought about the future he could have one day; raising his own kids with a wife, protecting the pack, and training the younger generations to be fierce warriors like him. It put a smile on his face thinking about it, as the morning sun continued to rise in the sky.

Hydra was aware that there were those of the pack lurking and waiting to meet the young. Soon enough that time would come, but her instinct did not permit them to leave the den quite yet. At eighteen days they had found their feet, but Hydra and her sisters kept them busy enough and thus far had thwarted any attempt made to loiter outside. That time, she felt, was coming... though still her gut told her, not yet. It had not led her astray, this, and so she obeyed the feeling that was far stronger than whim.

@Alya had partaken in the plant her sister had provided, and so had began to supply milk with her. Lyra might have too, when she was not looking... but that Alya did was a relief to her, this year. Hydra wondered if she was taking to the role now, and might be more eager to bring more young in of their own the following year. Hydra would not pressure her when she was not ready, but appreciated it immensely. It brought her closer to both of her sisters, these intimate and seemingly endless hours. But Hydra had come to enjoy them in the presence of the two wolves she loved more than anything, a part of her as they were.

Needing a drink now, Hydra slipped out from the whelping den to shake out her furs. A wayward wind brought comingling scents with it. Subordinate, and predator... to her young, at least. Hydra rumbled a warning to her sisters to be aware should for whatever reason things go awry, but she was confident in her ability to take down this enemy... and she would enlist the help of her nearby subordinate, too.

She headed in his direction with a long-legged, proud stride. She warned him to come no nearer than where he stood with a simple look; Hydra would never mind him standing sentry, but her babes were still too young for any to be accepted what she deemed as too close. Not too much longer, though... and she could not deny it warmed her to think of his excitement to meet their next generation; the latest lifeblood upon Moonspear would become their shared responsibility to rear.

Onto the real issue, here: There are fox somewhere near, she informed, in case he had not caught wind of it. Her keen nose was adept enough to distinguish scents most might not be aware of, but she was a master of that trade, too. Hydra took another sniff at the air, nose deciphering the many scent-notes around them to lock onto the one that bothered her most.
