@Fennec Backdated to 2/12 so not to bork timelines. <3

Anaa's wound was healing well, but Sialuk wished to find more herbs, even buried in snow, to help her be more comfortable and reduce any chance of infection or irritation. She sought Wolf's Bane, hoping it might help somehow. Bramblepoint was full of greenery in the warmer months, and she had some inkling that the herb might be buried beneath the snow. It may not be as good as fresh, but it would help.

She dug through the snow at various points where she thought she had seen it in the fall and summer to no avail, though. Disappointed, but not entirely surprised, she paused her search to groom some of the snowballs that had formed between her paw pads.

Fennec had settled quietly in at home.  She'd never admit missing him, but she wondered frequently if @Bronco was alright, and if maybe she should have stuck around.  Today she was loitering in the Bramblepoint as a result, picking half-heartedly at her garden with a forepaw.  The thing was too snow-covered, and the ground too frozen, to be in any way viable.  It was 100% a waste of time to be here right now.

She breathed in the sharp, clean scent of the snow, and was surprised when the wind brought another familiar presence.  Shit.  What was her name?

Fennec got to her feet and walked a ways towards the wind, though she wasn't sure exactly if the other girl was in earshot.  Hey! She called out, then paused and listened quietly.

Hey! called a familiar voice, and Sialuk turned to find the witch of the glen. Anaa had given Sialuk the girl’s real name, Fennec, though she would always think of her as the witch first.

Witch of the Glen, she greeted, a smile on her face and her features welcoming. It has been some time. She recalled that her mother had called the witch “cursed,” and though Sialuk would be careful, she did not shy away from her. Since they had last met, Sialuk had matured a great deal, and this was likely present in her voice as well.

I was hoping to find some Wolf’s Bane beneath the snow, but I have come up with nothing. There was disappointment in her voice, and she wished that her seeking had not been for nothing.

She still spoke in that weird, insanely formal manner that made Fennec almost want to try mimicking at some point.  It was such a bizarre departure from anything she'd ever heard before.  Maybe they could pass off as family, she thought with an internal snicker.  She was completely unaware they'd likely never pass on appearance basis.  Family resemblances only reached as far as voice and scent for Fenn.

Witch of the Bramble now,  she replied.  It was weird to hear the old title, especially now, when it had been ages since she was last there.  Going to be hard to find that now.  Do you need it need it?  Hopefully not, but if she did, maybe Fennec could help scrounge up something.

The bramble. Did that mean that Fennec stayed here now? Sialuk did not question it, assuming the witch had taken up residence here. She asked if Sialuk needed the Wolf's Bane, and the girl nodded. Kukutux hurt herself in a fall. Her shoulder flesh is broken. It will mend with time, but the Wolf's Bane would ease the pain. Comfort was part of the healing process, and Sialuk had been taught to keep her patients comfortable. For that was the way they healed more quickly.

We may have to make do with the snow to numb it, she decided with a sigh. It wasn't ideal, but at least it did not threaten anaa's life. Sialuk looked back to the witch and her clouded eyes but averted her gaze. It was not kind to look upon a difference, even if Fennec could not feel Sialuk's eyes.

Movement overhead caught Sialuk's attention, and she spotted Sixsix perched on a branch above. She smiled.

The crow, Sixsix, he follows me often now. He has brought me many bones since we last spoke. I have developed a method for learning from them. It was this which she thought might interest the witch.

Fennec sympathized, but it didn't sound like it was overly bad.  There wasn't as much concern in Sialuk's voice as there might have been, considering some of the falls that the Moonspear offered.  Fennec had always moved incredibly slowly and cautiously on the mountain because of it, and now that she knew what a hard fall felt like, she was glad.  She couldn't imagine having been laid that low anywhere but home.

If you go to water, willow bark might help.  It's easier to find in the snow than leaves.  Roots and bark were the way to go in the winter months, she was finding.  And pain management was a lot easier than a poultice for wounds.  Fennec was going to do a hell of a lot more prepping next year.

Hold on, hadn't she told the girl to find a familiar or some shit like that?  It felt like it had been ages, and it had, in many ways!  Thats cool.  I think you told me about the bones, maybe?  But what do you mean, learning from them?

I will search for the bark of willow, Sialuk said, glad that the witch had offered help. The raindrop wondered if she was more inclined to do so because it was her former mentor who was hurt.

The conversation moved to the bird and the bones, and the witch had more questions than Sialuk had once had for her. It brought a smile to her face, and she was happy to know they could now learn from one another, rather than their interactions benefiting only the younger of the two. In this way, the raindrop could feel herself growing on the inside as well as out.

I made a small skin to carry them, and when I think of a question, I scatter the bones, and they tell a small story. No details, but feelings and a sense of... connection to something not here in this world. Sometime, if you come to the spear, I can make a story of you.

Fennec had a hard time imagining how she got anything from bones.  It sounded like what she gained from her own interpretations of the 'signs', but she used touch for only a portion.  It didn't occur to her there might be something visual to read.

Please, Fennec answered, with more emphasis than normal.  I've done similar, but not with bones.  If you like, I could tell you your future? Or answer a question in return.  She didn't know much about Sialuk, but knowing that the girl was a believer was more than enough.

And there was a small part of the cynical Fennec that was curious... and that small, small measure was extremely curious of what Sialuk might find with her bones.

Last one for me! Trying to make room for my umpteen new threads, hehe.

The glen witch agreed to her offer, and Sialuk found that she was relieved. A small part of her had considered herself a fraud, especially after Norah, but knowing now that the witch had done something along the same lines eased her worries. This was a thing witches did, and while Sialuk knew her mother disapproved, it brought the raindrop peace, and she would not let it go.

I would like this, she said, affirming her interest. I will go now to find willow bark. Be well, bramble witch.

no worries! When Fenn comes back (and things calm down) we will have to meet and do some cardsss!

Yeah, you too.  Fennec replied, ear twisting with the stilted sound of the dismissal.  She listened to her leave, then turned, smiling to herself.  She still loved the way "bramble witch" sounded.

It'd be interesting to have her own fortune read, for a chance, and Fennec determined to use it as a learning experience.  She wondered what Sialuk would read in her... she found it hard to believe that the girl would use any other way, because Fennec still couldn't quite bring herself to believe anyone could honestly read into the future.  Curses? Sure.  Prophecy? Not so much.
