All Welcome
with great effort, the widow made it to the foxglade where at last she was forced to fold her wearied legs and drop her body down onto the cold earth.
she would hunt in the morning, heda told herself, curling her body tightly against the thin stems of bent saplings. her tongue probed the new space along the back of one jaw where she had lost a tooth in her fighting.
there was no god. she swallowed her hunger and tried to doze, ears alert for footsteps though all that echoed were the eldritch screams of courting foxes.

The boy had left the circle and into the nearby forest. Boughs overhead heavy with snow. The fox urine assailed his nose and the mad wailing throughout the tree put his hair on end. His ears folded to his head. The makings of a frown tugged at the corners of his mouth.

He thought he heard something about a meadow past the glade. Although, it would have been the wrong season entirely to go visiting. He would have turned around had it not been for the faintest breeze. A different scent, barely discernible amongst that of fox. His head lifted, probing the air with his nose. Was someone else here?

Newfound curiosity, and lack of caution, Ujurak continued through the trees. Trying to track the owner of the foreign scent, he did little to conceal his approach. Was the scent stronger here? Recalling his misstep with the Riverclan girl, he paused. He didn't want to sneak up on them. Clearing his throat he called out, Is someone there?

a man, a boy, male; her body recoiled and her panting mouth let her teeth shine.
heda did not answer, only tried to control her breaths. she did not want to be found.
and she wanted to cry.
the widow waited.

It had fallen quiet. Even the cacophony of fox calls hushed in the immediate vicinity. He held his breath as he listened.

No answer.

A flash of pink parted his lips. An uncertain whine eked out from the back of his throat. He knew someone else was there. Slowly, he paced forward, nose lowered. Eyes darting between the forest floor and his surroundings. His paw fell into the depression of track.

Hello?

she shut her mouth; tiny whines thrummed from her throat, in fear, in panic, in pain. but heda would not answer. she would not speak. she would not cry.
she only shut her eyes hard;
she only waited for the man to pass, hoping he would only go on! go away!
