merrick inspected the wounds from his latest scuffle in a mirror surface. the ducks had settled onto the banks, leaving him free to admire the slashes caused by a swing of the bull's weighty muzzle. in truth, merrick would have never accepted him even if he had been but a rough joiner. the disrespect could be beaten away, but the matter of it was that the coywolf hadn't found the male attractive.
merrick enjoyed pretty things and pretty individuals. all of them here were that, from silvermoon ulysses to the ear-torn dashing nature of fields. astara, by dint of being the only woman among them, was in her own category. the rest were beautiful men and merrick counted himself in that number.
