All Welcome
senmut hardly slept. his meals were put aside mostly untouched. some malaise was among them, said his priest's heart, but he had no name for it.

so hour by hour he kept to the altars, to his prayers, the incense, the chanting.

another man had come among them, another suitor for the queen, and again must akashingo shift.

it came to pass that when the man went out into the open-air throne room, he saw a peculiar thing on the wide stone lip of the mesa. a closer stride adjudged it an egg! an egg! a hawk's egg.

impossibly before the prince's eyes it began to hatch.

She had become accustomed to being welcomed in the company of Toula, so of course as a child would, Miho assumed she was welcome wherever the Queen would be found. This included the throne room. Whether it was true or not, it simply highlighted how much this feral girl still had to learn of hierarchy in a structured society.

Yet, here she was wandering through the archway, oblivious to the egg which cracked mere inches away from her. Instead, she focused on Senmut, a man she knew very little of. He looked to be in shock, and only then did she take note of the egg. A single large paw hovered near the little miracle, looking to touch.

with the omens came many miracles. Toula had been heard and protected, but Apopis would not be ignored, not entirely.
Toula came to Senmut, to let him know the things she had both heard and observed—she smiled at the little Miho and encouraged her along with her—before she paused to behold what Senmut did.
what does this mean? she whispered, and gasped as she heard the thing begin to crack with its opening!

the chick was not a hawk but a prairie falcon child.

senmut's surprise and reverent attendance was swift. he reached forward to cup the tiny bird, to bring it to the young queen and the pup who watched.

"it is a sign from Horus, divine one," the prince said quietly. and the throne came at once to his mind.

"a feather is used to weigh. Horus blessed the throne of your great-grandfather and those after. now the Horus Throne has come to be empty." senmut felt the words flow through him as if he were no more than a conduit, and leant gratefully into this sensation. "raise this chick as your very own, hemet-nekheb" he urged. "one day it may help you to choose pharaoh."
