All Welcome
For @Reverie <333

"there once was a ship that put to sea!
the name of the ship was the billy o'tea!"
(If the pirates were alive, they'd make Pancakes walk the plank for singing a fake shanty)

"the winds blew up, her bow dipped down!
oh blow, my bully boys, blow!"
(it makes her think more of the ocean she travels across, and the pink bows she once saw)

Pancakes is a butterfly far from home, but perhaps that is how she liked to be. marmalade wings are busy flapping and gliding, her own little voice sometimes muffled by the coastal wind. and through all of it, there is always a feeling of joy encapsulated in her tiny little body.

it is a new day to celebrate! she tasted the delicacies that the coastal group had to offer and now comes further to see what else these ocean-dwellers had to offer. and far out, she could see whales breaking against the waves. they were so much more lively than the ones she saw hanging in that museum!

and so the brave little creature continues her little sea shanty as she comes closer to the ground level. the grass is enticing, but so is the coastal water (despite her inability to swim) and even the crystal sands.

"soon may the wellerman come!
to bring us sugar and tea and rum!"
(believe it or not, pancakes has tasted all 3 of these things!)

She thought of Lestan with every waking moment, it felt. It only took a few days for the ache of his absence to intensify to a fine edge burrowing somewhere between her ribs. More than anything, she worried that he was in danger. In the Valley he'd left and almost died; here, there was a new set of dangers, but the old worries lingered too. The witch.
What if she hurt him?
But Reverie tried not to think of this. She tried only to imagine what his return would be like, how wonderful it would be to feel his embrace again. That was all she really wanted. Him, home, with her. Maybe then she could finally rest. She was so tired lately.
She was distracted by the tiniest sound, something like — a song. Reverie's ears flicked, and she pulled her eyes away from the ocean to survey the area. Nothing. No one. Except...
Oh! She breathed, immediately enchanted. A butterfly! Reverie went very still, and only watched the vibrant creature, afraid to startle it. She thought of calling to Blossom, who was not far away, but stopped and wondered if butterflies could hear. Well, if they could sing...

this certainly was confusing for Pancakes. the sun was supposed to be in the sky, shrouded with clouds and rolling mist from the saltwater. and yet as she flies closer, it appeared that the sun's very own lightrays have condensed into the form of something beautiful!

and so, Reverie would have to forgive Pancakes lack of spatial awareness as she flies to the point of being perhaps mere inches from her eyes. and through all of the excitement, the butterfly can be heard changing her words to fit what she saw.

"look at the stars!"
(Darn it Pancakes, it was daytime, she wouldn't be able to see them without burning her retinas!)

"look how they shine for you! and everything you do!
yeah, they were all yellow!"

it was perhaps all Pancakes could see was gold and yellow and cream, but it just reminds her of marigolds and sunflowers and gold leaves on fancy parfaits and sundaes. yellow is such a pleasant color, and this lovely creature had every wonderous shade possible!

Reverie did not at all mind when the butterfly flitted close enough to touch, close enough to smell the earthy and floral scents of the wilds on its tiny wings. She was too busy discovering a new love of Coldplay, which she absolutely would have been a fan of in another life that involved thumbs and cooking your food before you eat it. Her favorite song would definitely be Paradise.
But she loved this one too! I didn't know stars could be yellow, She breathed, giggling softly. I thought that was just the sun... Oh, but what would a butterfly know about the sun and stars? What did Reverie know about the sun and stars? Suddenly she was questioning everything; maybe stars were yellow, up close.
