A rabbit runs through the tree's, followed by the huffing of a wolf. Whisper was busy attempting to hunt a rabbit when she hears something in the distance. Her curiosity starts to get the better of her and she begins walking in that direction. Carefull she stops at the border of Moonspear territory as she observes the pack activity. The ways of pack life have always been a mystery to her, seeing as she's never been in a pack.

Whisper knew that if she approached the pack, she would be trespassing and she didn't want that so she stays at the border. The wind blew through her fur which sent a chill up Whisper's spine as she continued to watch, she felt a strange feeling deep down in her heart. It was her longing to be part of a pack, her longing to belong.

She wanted to stay longer but it was getting dark and she felt the crisp winter air on her fur. Whisper knew she would have to find shelter soon. She started walking away slowly, occassionally glancing back with a sigh. "Maybe one day." She says to herself.

Down from the mountain, Dirge had set out on the late hour to mingle in the cover of the forest. There was an ever growing itch to break away from the woodland for the spread of open plain beyond Moonspear's claim, but he continued to deny it. A day trip would have been nice, a chance to range and explore and fill in the gaps that had been left from his summer's passage. There was the idea of the glen where he had first met Charon, or perhaps the old forest of twists and turns beneath a distant mountain where he had encountered Hydra. But whatever lied east past the river he did not know, and perhaps that was for the better. Winter on an open plain did not appeal to him; the wind was cutting to his ears already.

He wove about the borders, favoring a stretch that served as a neutral point of comings and goings. There the tracks left by the others was distinct, the various sights and smells now familiar to him in an instant even if he did not have faces and names to go with them. He was more aware here this time, for if Jarilo lurked he decided he would not be caught unaware this time. He wondered though, if anyone was out at all, or if the cold and the pressing wind has driven them to find warmer climes until such passed.

It was over a narrow rise between stump and stone that he spied someone. It was brief, a flash of butterscotch and cream that disappeared through the trees just as quickly as it appeared. It gave him pause as he tried to spy her out again; the guard hairs prickling along his shoulders and spine raised a quiet alarm. There had been the arrogant beast that had been dispatched by Hydra—the corpse he had seen, but the story untold in words—and suddenly, he wondered what exactly to do. These things, things he should have known had been a rare issue in the past... but this was a different place, full of customs and requirements he was only learning. But they were all driven by the same primal designs, and so Dirge rallied his confidence and broke from the trees quietly. Like a knave, he stole across the terrain to better observe and find what unfolded.

Whisper had no notion that another wolf had been spying on her, just as she had been secretly watching that pack, nor did she know she was being followed by that exact same wolf. Whisper stopped to catch her breath before taking off in a sprint. Nightfall was decending faster than she'd hoped and she knew that as soon as it became dark she would have to rely entirely on her sense of smell.

Whisper had traveled miles from the vacated bear den that she had found and feared that she might have to spend the night in the bitter winter cold as she did the winter before. She shutters at the memory of herself waking to the pain of the frost that would most likely build up on her fur.

Quick and careful steps reined in the distance between them. Dirge finally laid better eyes on her as he slipped out onto the trail behind her. She wasn't of Moonspear, that much he could tell on the wind left in her wake. But he wasn't to trail behind her for long when she sprang forward and slipped away into the night. The loose snow scattered and sparkled; he felt torn between giving her chase or simply letting her go as he came to a standstill.

But it was that standstill that prompted him to evaluate what may have been at hand. The loner that had been dispatched, the wolf that Hydra and her kin hunted... Dirge wondered if this too fit in with it all. If it did, then where? He did not hesistate when he cast his head back to summon @Hydra—she would know, she would decide. Though he hadn't wanted a part in it all, it seemed the decision had been wrested from his paws altogether. And Dirge was not foolish enough to rush headlong after someone that could have led him to a trap.

Whisper soon reached the point of stopping, she caught her breath as she looked around for shelter to sleep in. She had no luck in her search and began to dig a temporary den in the dirt. Even though it would not protect her from the cold winter air, it would at least sheild her from the frosty wind. She succeeds in her den making and curls into a ball. She whimpered as she thought of the pack she saw today, how they are surrounded by the moist warm breath of their fellow slumbering pack mates.

Hydra had missed the wolf that had come to them, but only just. Dirge's call beckoned she be swift, and the Beta was just that. In no time at all the Ostrega was beside him, a curious look on her features. Had he seen something out of the ordinary? But her observant eye caught the interruption in snow where someone had clearly made haste. Hydra darted toward that very spot, sniffed heartily, and relaxed significantly upon not knowing a single thing about the scent. Did they attempt to cross? Hydra asked, looking to Dirge.

Hydra was there in a flash, the darkness snaking around her form to make her materialize in the winter twilight. She must have been close he thought, to have come at a moment's notice. Unless of course, she had breached some time-space continuum he didn't know about. His tail lashed uneasy as she investigated the tousled snow, but came to rest at his hocks as she gradually relaxed. Somewhere off in the distance, he heard the call of an owl, then ambient silence until Hydra spoke.

"Hard to say, she was making her way out of here when I first saw her." Could she have crossed their borders so quickly? He thought of the caches he had found where Moonspear's borders fluctuated; perhaps she had thought to sift through their contents, or rather their lack thereof. "Once I started to catch up, she was off in a hurry. Perhaps she heard me," he trailed here, not denying the possibility. A hunter he may have been, but not of their kin for they had keen hearing for a reason.

A beat of silence proceeded his thoughts: "Should we go fetch her and find out?"

Frost begins to form on the young she-wolf's fur as she tried to sleep, some part of her forced her to wake. Perhaps the chattering of a nearby squirrel or the screeching of a fox, she was unsure. Ahe knew that her restlessness must mean something.

Whispers stands up and sees the snow that piled around her, the white serene virgin snow was beautiful but deadly if stayed in for very long. She steps out and felt the cold snow touch her paws and it made her shiver. She looked around and began walking, to where she knew not. What she did know is that she must find some other means of shelter before she froze.

As Moonspear is currently full, Hydra won't pursue Whisper—there is a link here to see the stats of other packs currently accepting members!

She thought on what Dirge said, and though there was part of her hankering for a fight, there was no need. The other, fortunately for them, had not trespassed. So when Dirge asked if they ought to go after her, she shook her head. Keep an eye out for them, though. If they come back, it's another story, because why would they come back unless they truly did seek trouble? Their proximity wasn't close enough for Hydra to feel any threat, but Hydra did sniff at the snows the other had haplessly flung around in their getaway to remember. Hydra licked her chops and glanced to Dirge. Shall we continue this patrol together? She invited with an inviting sweep of her plume.

There was a steadfast shake of her head; they wouldn't be tracking down the mystery she-wolf that had skirted on by. That was fine with him, though he could not help but have a passing thought to how many times that very decision may have been made regarding him. He had teased those wandering lines before, and sometimes more than once.

He cast his gaze out past Hydra to the settling darkness for a moment as she spoke. Whether or not the wolf would return would remain a question to be answered. Whatever their intentions had been, he found himself hoping they did not err on the side of more nefarious things.

"Why not," he replied, his gaze now back on Hydra. He turned back towards the towering mountains, and when she had come back to him, Dirge followed her lead.

last post from me. good luck!
