Departure thread to conclude my time in Sagtannet! I'll leave this up for a few days should @Elke, Ciri & @Mahler, feel up to making a post here.   :)

She'd barely slept. Although Nyx had yearned for easy slumber to better fuel the first leg of her family's journey to Moonspear, it did not come easily for the lioness. Instead she dozed spottily on her last night at the rendezvous, plagued by anxiety and deep sorrow for the culmination of events that'd led to her decision.

As a new sun began to crest above the distant horizon, Nyx turned her tawny crown to squint her vibrant gaze toward its light. She had not objected to Mahler's insistence in escorting them and had agreed to meet him on the Western foothills. Soon, when the cubs had woken and readied themselves to be on the move, the Ostregas would descend from Sagtannet's spire for a final time to bid farewell to their sorry existence there.

She turned then, to regard her offspring with a softening of her brow. Her gaze lingered first on Elke, her sweet and innocent snowflower, and felt a spear of emotion in her chest. It was she who did not welcome the choice her dam made as readily as her littermate, likely could not understand it beyond one parent removing their family from its patriarch. A muscle tensed in her jaw as she shifted her stare, let it rest softly on her little blackbird, and let her serve as the optimism she required. Ciri deserved more than this miserable life in Sagtannet, where Nyx' feared her feelings of rejection would continue to grow.

Nyx could only hope that Moonspear would welcome them with arms wide open.

She looked forward to seeing Dirge again, to having an opportunity to lean on him for the support she desperately needed. He'd always been able to provide the silent, solid pillar of strength that Nyx required, even when she'd let him down.

Carefully, the lioness roused her pups with peppered kisses and soft murmurings, and encouraged them to follow along the mountain path she'd worn for them. She greeted Mahler briefly and with a sad little smile, void of its usual warmth for him, before she carried on ahead in silence to allow a father to share some precious time with his daughters before a whole world could separate them.

For Cirilla Ostrega, the solution to all of her woes awaited her back in Sawtooth. It was on the peak she'd been born to where her earliest memories were made, where she'd lived freely and happily. There, her whole world consisted of Mama, Papa and her sister. Only when the pack rallied to announce its move did she realise there was so much more, and yearned to find where she fit among those several new faces belonging to those her parents insisted were there to keep her safe.

Why, then, had they saw fit to make her feel so worthless?

It was not their previous mountain that her family were returning to that day, however, but another. "Moonspear" was what her mother called it and, though intrigued, Ciri was reluctant. She said they had an uncle there who would be kind to them, family who would welcome them. The little blackbird wanted so much to trust Nyx' word, but she was very aware of the anxious flurry in her belly that this peak would reject her as well.

She stayed close to Elke as they trailed along after the lioness, her tail low until she spotted the familiar form of her father. Ciri quickened her stride at the sight of him, hurried forward to press herself lovingly to his limbs anod lean heavily against him with excited anticipation of his affection.

Mother had shared that he would make sure they arrived to Moonspear safely, but Ciri hadn't yet figured out that he would not remain there with them.

"And then the world started to exist again,
but it existed very differently."

mahler wished terribly he could take several things out of the past, that as the dawnlight came to bathe the peak in soft hues, he would wake. that this was only a dream. that nyx had not gathered their daughters and prepared to leave.
the lioness was cool to him as he met she and they upon the foothills. mahler kept his gaze from lingering, fought the inclination to reach toward her.
instead he grinned toward ciri, nudging her with a press of his nose, and chuffing to elke. for their sake he would keep his spirits arisen — for their sake, the gargoyle would ignore the sting of thorns girdling his spirit. "ve vill see so many things on our journey," he told them softly, lavender eyes moving between his beloved pair of cubs.
but only he would return after it, and mahler knew not how to speak the word.

Her sadness was evident. The little snow and sunshine girl's eyes watered as she turned her attention to the whole of her home. Though she tried not to shed a tear, holding back with a sniffle. Whilst she loved the idea of meeting new wolves, going to new places and learning new things, she knew the journey would be a long one and their training and learning of her mother's family would take time. Time far away from Nova Peak. She had not yet seen the glacier nor the cliffs that lead down to the ocean. She wondered when she ever might. Had she known her father, too, would not be staying with them, she would have been all but crushed.

Her worries were smushed down into her gut as he mother urged then along delicately, as her sister kept close to her side. Her sister had always seemed stronger then her, at least physically, but it seemed now it was Elke who helped her sister now, in emotion. Her father coming to them eased her and like her sister she came forth to him for an embrace. She was ready to go as she ever could be.
