All Welcome
Etienne was 7 weeks old now. Completely weaned from his mother, and often to be seen tumbling outside the den. They hadn't moved anywhere, yet. And though he was small, he was curious. He was a quiet introspective boy. Loud noises hurt his ears. But he loved the feel of vibrations. He could feel them all.

It was with this he was walking. Long gangly legs lifted up to high for the ground. Staring down. He could feel the vibrations in the ground, and he wasn't sure how he felt about it. He loved to listen to his families vibrations. He understood some of their words, but the words were so broken and mashed together inside his brain, he couldn't really make hides nor tails of it. Creole, French, common. Instead he focused on the vibrations if they were loud or deep, high and sing song like his mom, or low and soothing like Granme @Erzulie, or high and then low, dipping and rolling like Granme @Rosalyn who reminded him of the sea.

she was thinking. considering. the future was close at hand. her own was entwined elsewhere and here.
summer first, and then the fall. and then the storms of winter, and the cold snows which scoured the beach and turned the edges of the sea to ice.
but now it was warm, and the obsidian turned her mismatched eyes toward etienne. for a moment she only watched the boy, observing what it was he might be doing.

Etienne bent low and listened to the ground. Vibrations deep within his paws and his chest. Eyes closed he began to breath along with them, and he moved in place with them. It was the sound of the sea. The sound of walking feet. It was the world itself.

He wasn't entirely certain what he was doing, but the vibrations warmed his soul, though he didn't know what that was yet. But it fit somewhere inside. He couldn't explain as a young thing.

he was listening. erzulie sat down. etienne was hearing. knowing. her mind went at once to sobo and she wondered if this little son of the seacliffs too had inherited the intensity of the ocean in his blood. that sobo was a spiritual boy where mireille was not had not escaped her.
she smiled toward her small grandson, still quiet and unwilling to disturb his perceptions of the world.

i did not know sobo was that way lol.

Etienne was stolen from his feeling by a sense of something. Not realizing what it was yet, but knowing something or someone was watching. He turned and moved towards his granme.

He began to speak. Granmere, granme, granma!

All the languages he knew curling and flitting together. It was why he didn't speak often. His mother spoke to him in french, his granme in creole. And he heard the common language. It was all there in his head.

He poked at her with his nose, stood on back feet to lick her face. koute

He grasped her paw gently and placed it to the ground and bent his ear down. Closed his eyes again at the vibration. His tiny body following the movements beneath the surface.

yeah! its cool to see!

she could not know the tragedy to come.
she moved closer to etienne, letting him kiss her and move her paw. erzulie watched the little boy with great fondness.
"you hear de sea. vibrations from de cliffs below." it was her guess. she motioned out toward where the sea stretched beyond sapphique.
"kisa vwa a di ou?"

Etienne looked up at her with a fond smile. As she listened. Eyes closed once in happiness. Though they popped open with her question.

He frowned in thought wiggling. se tankou kè m it go thump bump. Feels strong. Wild.

He had no more words. Instead he moved his paws in tadem trying to show what his words couldn't convey. The rythmn of the ocean.

Etienne tried to listen. He really did, but he was young. And perhaps some of it was lost on him, but he was trying.

"not bad, my sweet boy. not good ei'ter. de lwa simply are. dey simply exist. an' you do not find dem. dey find you."
her two-toned eyes gleamed. "you be a son of t'ese shores. yes, t'ese t'ings also be for you to know."
she stood, restless. "run wid me, etienne. we will see what dey say if you ask dem for speed."

Etienne listened. He wasn't certain what she meant. Manman always told them to be good, not bad. So how could you be neither? Did that mean you were good sometimes and bad sometimes. However, her next words, changed his thoughts and he smiled.

Okay.

He shifted and closed his eyes. Feeling the vibrations beneath the ground. The soft sound evening out his breathing. Then with a happy yip, he took off running. Overly long legs tearing at the ground. His floppy large ears doing the same. he probably looked a sight running all legs, and feet and ears. But he didn't care.

she glided beside him, grandmother and grandson of sapphique.
and in this was her vision.
and in this was her heart.
erzulie leapt once in the air, howling for the sheer joy of it.

Etienne tried to follow suit. He couldn't get quite as high and his leap looked more like a shuffle of limbs, but he tried, and tipped his own muzzle back to join her in her revelry. The sound of her feet hitting the sand, jarring and comforting all at once. He was enjoying this, and his grandmother rose in his heart, the highest of esteem.

fade & have another? <3

erzulie kissed his forehead; she embraced him. and they would stand as wolves of sapphique, calling out over their land.
the sea chose them.

Of Course <3

Etienne did not know this feeling. He had not the words for it. The love that flowed around him from his granme. The earth beneath his paws and the ocean at his front. The wide stretching ocean that went for miles, and made him feel so small and yet so free at the same time. There was something within it's cool depths that called to him. Though of what he could not answer yet.
