he had heard @Reyson's call to maxim but had finished his extended patrol. when the imperator returned, it was to find the redhawk family gone.

something had happened. he summoned the legatus to the forum. "give me a report of epoch," he said, assuming that it had much to do with towhee and maxim's move to the vale.

Reyson stood at attention and nodded his head. I was with the healer Meadow, when i was returning. Towhee asked that i accompajy her to Epoch she was already halfway there. I figured it was easier to go with her.

The warmth for both meadow amd towhee was miniscule in his voice.

Towhee caught her wounds upon a tree and ripped them open. I called for Meadow and came to get Maxim at Towhees request.

Reyson's brow furrowed. I was also asked to escort Lady Meadow to a nearby pack that is new, Basilica.

upon reyson's pelt was the scent of blood, of towhee, and of maxim. nestled among them was the now quite-familiar herbal bouquet of meadow.

it stirred the eagle.

reyson's explanation began with the fact he had already been with lady meadow when towhee called. this particular information affected the imperator in a small way that he was unwilling to address at present.

"i understand the necessity of moving so quickly. in the future however, i must be included in your immediate reports. out of respect for arsenio i will not go to epoch but i would have been there to escort and to carry whatever is necessary."

the eagle moved on. reyson did not need to be scolded. "what do you know of basilica?" he asked, trying to ignore the pinprick of unnecessary jealousy that now inched into the back of his mind.

Reyson shifted a little confused. Am i not to escort towhee or meadow? Or i am to report it to you immwdiately sir?

Reyson made a brain shift and spoke. only what lady Meadow has told me. She met a healer Ash Paw. They are religious and non. A place for many. I plan to find out more on our trip.

"i heard your howl for maxim but not for myself," germanicus clarified. he wanted to further point out that it was not part of reyson's tasks to escort others.

but he saw the futile bitterness of that and so would say nothing upon that front.

basilica sounded to be a place of heathens. the legatus would have made mention had they settled close. "how long do you believe you will be gone with the lady meadow?"

Reyson nodded and said no more. Though a part of him was still confused. He didn't understand why it was such a big deal who he escorted if it were in his own time. Mereo didn't own him, but he also realized he was being difficult.

A day or two. I know my time table to go to Akashingo. I do want to mention sir. Of what I am able to teach? Princess Makono has asked i teach her gusrd Khaba, but he is not ours.

Though his tongue froze in his maw. The thought of the palace saddened him.

"i credit your awareness. i do not wish you to rush an emissary trip."

talking was difficult he had found. where he had never stumbled before, now he did so often. 

the mention of makono's guard sharpened his eyes. "do you wish to train him? we are allies. but it is not necessary if it is outside your desire."

Reyson looked up and nodded. I won't rush it. But Lady Meadow wants to be back to care for Towhee and a weak pup of a she wolf named Keyni.

Reyson sighed. It fills me with unease. The way she worded it makes it sound political, but i feel if i refuse it could be disasteous to our pack.

germanicus inclined his head. he meant to lead them beyond earshot and over the borders.

once they were alone, the man relented. "the crown prince is ambitious. but she is not yet pharaoh. and she cannot command you so. let ramesses train his own men." the eagle rolled his shoulders and seemed now to be more alive.

"my apologies, reyson. i suppose these recent events have been — more trying than i knew." he set his eyes upon the man. "thank you for helping towhee and maxim. also for organizing a reconnaissance mission."

his gratitude was genuine. the strange little feeling intensified. "i had the good fortune of meeting lady meadow myself. she is a good reflection of epoch as you are of mereo."

Reyson nodded his head. Yes sir.

Reyson shifted a paw. No need to thank me sir. Maxim would have done the same and Towhee and i am sorry that your burden has grown. It is painful to lose a love. Whether alive or non.

Reyson nodded his head a small smile lighting up his eyes for a minute. Not ashamed in thr least of his feelings and thoughts as he had never been. That she is and thank you sir.

the way that reyson lit for a moment told germanicus what he wished to know.

or what he chose to assume.

the small sensation turned into a rankling set of claws. this was exacerbated by reyson's reference to ruenna. for a moment he burned with resentment. and then he chastised himself.

reyson was a loyalist. germanicus needed to rein himself and tightly.

thus he did so, until the proverbial muzzle tightened around his tongue. "mereo helps me learn how to become accustomed to this new reality. thank you."

he moved on at a crisp walk. "we have a new auxillary. minne is her name. when you return from your mission, i might ask you to acquaint yourself with her. i am going to promote tierra and assign minne to her for most things, but both are still beneath your surveilance. "

Reyson was currently oblivious to the maelstrom of emotions that buried beneath the Imperator's breast and had he known. Well it didn't bode well. He was a soldier ot his core, but with meadow's help he was realizing he could be more.

yes she came across me in the wilds. She seemed eager to learn.

"i invited her on your word," he told the man. reyson's counsel and opinion had become important. when he reached elitus, his word would be law.

he would be well-positioned for a more familial future.

he realized his thoughts were drifting to the epochian woman once more. his curiosity brutalized him in silence. 

but there was no way to ask directly and so he too was quiet.

Reyson dipped his head to the Imperator. then I hope she doesn't squander such a chance.

Reyson didn't know what awaited him in teh future, or even if Meadow even felt the same. If she didn't he would take the frienship she offered and try not to let it hurt to bad when she moved on as such a she wolf would.

I do want to thank you Imperator. For taking a chance on a beaten down soldier with no home. I appreciate it.

the eagle nodded on the subject of minne. but he felt she would earn her keep.

"you have earned my respect and the chance was well-taken. a man with such a rank will be quite eligible when the season comes around once more."

he spoke casually. but he was thinking of ruenna.

he was thinking of his wife.

and how his arms longed for her feeling even now.

Reyson raised a brow. I am aware. I am the forever kind sir. So, I do not make liaison's lightly. If I pursue someone it is because I care. So we will see what comes.

The few liason's he had with the exception of his sunshine wolf, were because as a soldier in that pack it was expected. He didn't like that and refused to do so now.

He hoped in a strange way that Ruenna would come back to the Imperator, only because it was clear the male suffered from her absence, and loved her as best as he could.

"good. it means i will not need to worry about pups outside mereo's protection."

that was a true reality as well.

he straightened, wanting very much for their speech to end on a note that was not so awkward.

"i look forward to your report on basilica. please speak freely when you deliver it."

he was ready now to part ways before anything else strained was said.

Reyson nodded and turned away from the Imperator, a small lifte of teh side of his muzzle. he probably shouldn't find it so amusing to ruffle the feathers of the Imperator, but he did none the less. He reminded him a bit of Renaud at times. Though Renaud was not so rigid.
