He remained on autopilot for now—unable to process most of what had occurred within only the past few days. Often, his gaze pulled to Silvertongue—partially in disbelief that she was here, once more—in denial that in truth, it was not the Silvertongue he knew.

When the white she-wolf came to view, Akavir’s shoulder would brush to Silvertongue with reassurance—but they were met with a genuine greeting as Moonglow’s Alpha shared with them their happy news and extended an invitation.

Silently, his offer of the meat was given—nodding in acceptance to Kukutux’s invitation—uncertain what an ulaq was, but eager for the stolen moment where he did not need to try to untangle any of his thoughts or recent discoveries.

“Congratulations to both you and your daughter—and family, of course. My apologies of arriving at such a busy time—hopefully we won’t keep you long. Please, let me introduce you to my travel companions—Eivor, from Kvarsheim, and… Silvertongue.”

A gentle pause—refraining from looking to either woman near him. What would it be like to make preparations of a celebration, rather than be in a consistent state of dealing with the constant churn of danger and drama that befell their own doorsteps?

He had never had the chance to watch his children find or grow into such happiness. Envy was an ugly thing—but perhaps it was motivating, all the more.

When Kukutux confirmed his daughter was no longer here, he could not help the grit of his teeth or the fall of his features—now he would need to search for her. He resisted to rub the bridge of his nose in his frustration and fatigue—“I don’t suppose she was a guest of endearing politeness and gratitude?”

He loosed a breath. He didn’t even need an answer to that question to just know. “I’m sorry, Kukutux. Has she healed well, otherwise? Please—let the Creek repay you, somehow. I haven’t had a chance to investigate much further on what happened except for Cygnet’s account—but we truly appreciate Moonglow’s support and graciousness throughout this whole matter.”
