small PP of rosalyn to assume she was there

it was a cold afternoon that saw the two she-wolves called from their densite in request of @Firefly. erzulie could not keep the small smile from her face; she continually glanced to the pirate at her side. within her soul roiled a fearful morass of nerves and anticipation, heightened by the budding response of her body to the season.
to be among the first who grew rusalka with children; a shiver coursed through her honeycream withers, and she swallowed. no words to be spoken; erzulie kissed @Rosalyn's shoulder and was silent.

The man heard the summons, and hastened back from the seaside embankment which had distracted him that morning. His first thought - upon realizing it was Erzulie's voice - was that the golden woman wished to inspect his injuries. Her work had helped many of the Rusalkans recover after the battle, and Firefly was certain that he was back to fighting form; however, if she wished to follow-up and inspect him again  he would oblige her. It wasn't until he was within her line of sight that he noticed a second body waiting - the dark woman, Rosalyn. This made him curious and a touch concerned, and so he picked up his pace. When he was finally settled before the two of them, Firefly murmured, You called?

Rosalyn favored Erzulie with a lean in while they waited, her own thoughts elsewhere.  She had met the man who Erzulie wanted to speak with, and she felt she didn't quite hold the same regard for him.  It had been a tense night, and she was not fast to form bonds.  It had surprised her to hear that this was her wife's choice, honestly, but she wasn't bothered; as long as Erzulie felt comfortable in the arrangement she'd be content.

She watched him come up with a somewhat closed expression, not wanting to give much away.  This was his and Erzulie's conversation, for the most part; she was here for support and to hear his answer, but anticipation definitely had her stomach in knots.

Feel free to skip me at any point if you wish! I'll hop in/out most likely depending

it was not long before firefly arrived, and he seemed vaguely worried. or perhaps that was merely herself, erzulie pointed out, for with each passing moment her nerves frayed farther. yet rosalyn was at her side, and she drew from that warm pillar of silent strength.
"hello, firefly," the chai-tea woman began, her two-toned eyes settling upon him. "we — i — wanted to ask you a question." knowing this would only elicit concern in the scarred man, she was quick to jump ahead, adding: "we have decided to have children, an' we wanted to know if you would provide de ... seed."
despite the gravity of the conversation, erzulie was amused; it lit her gaze with some warmth, and tension began to ebb.

The request was swift, a flurry of words that initially caused concern to hitch in his chest — but that ebbed, and he was left looking a little bit perplexed. Maybe that wasn't the right term for it either, though; Firefly didn't know how to feel with the proposition at first, and was silent.

He watched Erzulie's face for a moment, and his gaze slid to the stoic Rosalyn, and then back again. There weren't many options for them to choose from if they truly wanted children, and he... Felt kind of proud of himself for making the short list.

If you wish, he softly agreed. The man's rugged features softened as he spoke, only to turn in to a subtle frown a moment later — I mean, yes, I'd be honored to give you - both of you - a family.

Well.  This was it.  She listened as Erzulie proposed the question, and amended it to be from she herself.  She didn't mind it - it was correct.  Funny enough, Rosalyn's hesitance wasn't entirely because Firefly was a stranger still to her.  It was because he was a stranger who was also a packmate, and in that she would be choosier for herself.

A stranger she could have and leave, as she had so many times before.  There was no obligation, no ties for later, and the child would be theirs and no one else's.  Would Firefly be content to claim no ownership of the children he assisted in bringing to the world outside the claim he took as packmate?

He seemed appreciative of the question and keen on his answer, and Rosalyn was glad for Erzulie's sake even despite her own misgivings.  She smiled and gave a small nod of thanks, but still didn't say anything.

firefly did not take long to grant her request, but there seemed to be some tension lingering in the air. glancing to rosalyn, letting her mismatched gaze flit across the planes of her lover's face, the harlot looked back to the man who had agreed to give them a great deal.
"do you have any questions, firefly?" the gratitude was clear in her voice. to have beside her a packmate that had not only proved himself to rusalka, but to erzulie herself — she could think of no better creature to trust with such an event. but still she was wary by nature, and wished to be sure of all things before they made formal their agreement.

He wasn't sure what to make of Rosalyn, who was silent and discerning simultaneously. Was she not keen to have children? Maybe that's why it was Erzulie that made the proposition — he presumed that she would be the mother, which sent his mind off on a tangent of its own. Images of the two of them together, of what their children might look like — but he banished the thoughts quickly enough, not wanting the awkwardness to linger.

Do you have any questions, Firefly? the witch-woman asked of him. He shook his head and let a smile linger on his face for a moment, but then stopped as he thought of something that was pertinent to ask. If I am to father these children... Do you wish for me to participate in their rearing? It wasn't so strange for an entire pack to support a litter, so it wouldn't be that strange for him to be a facet of their lives, but...

We have the whole pack to help with their raising and their protection. If it matters any, I can help with this and then step aside — they will be yours entirely, unless you wish for further involvement. He didn't want to abandon them; even though the concept of siring a litter of puppies was a touch overwhelming, he was duty-bound to be present. He would do whatever Erzulie and Rosalyn were comfortable with.

Erzulie offered to answer any questions, and the one he asked struck the core of her inner thoughts. She reacted with a flick of her tail, though she bit her tongue for a moment.

Her first instinct was no.  These children would be hers and Erzulie's alone, and no wolf would have a say in their raising save them.  She wasn't sure why this feeling hit her so strongly, but it came from a place of mistrust and that was a place she was trying very hard to get away from.  This was her home now, yes?

Still, she couldn't fight the urge to assert that they have no ties to break if they decided they needed to leave this place behind.  Old habits.

You will not need to.  She said, though her tone wasn't unfriendly.  More... matter of fact.  But then she looked at Erzulie, and lifted a brow slightly.  Did she want the children to have a father?  She didn't think it was necessary but she knew her reasoning for it wasn't something she wanted to assert.  She'd been raised without a father and cursed him for it, but she and Erzulie would protect these children in a way Rosalyn's mother hadn't protected her.  That she could guarantee.

in her eagerness, she had not thought to discuss this part with rosalyn. erzulie herself did not trust men, for they largely were not worthwhile. however, she also saw no reason to keep firefly from the children he would sire. at some point, the pups borne of their union would ask after their father. erzulie was not prepared to lie, nor did she wish to layer untruths over one another.
however, she wished to present a united front with rosalyn. nudging her mate's cheek with a hope to dispel the seeming rigidity of the pirate's body, erzulie turned her two-toned eyes back upon firefly. "dey will be born in rusalka. you are rusalka — derefore, if de pack is helping to raise dem, you will be included in dat number."
she sought his eyes, aware of what he was asking, but refusing at this moment to provide an answer until she and rosalyn had come to an agreement.

Rosalyn finally spoke and was filled with opposition, or so he witnessed. Then it was Erzulie speaking up in the same manner, but softer. He did not mind the rebuttal from either of them - he was asking for his own clarity of mind, and was not offended either way. He did nod though, thus catching Erzulie's gaze. As you wish. He was content with continuing with his usual duties; it did not occur to him that the children might seek him out one day though, and would likely never be prepared if that should happen. If they had nothing else to say, he would bid them farewell - but for now he waited, watching them and awaiting dismissal.

Her words hadnt been meant as a decision in any way, but more of a release of expectations.  He wouldn't be needed, but she didn't feel comfortable speaking for Erzulie on if he would be wanted.  It had taken her years to find someone she was secure enough in to tie their lives together like this, and she doubted she could ever feel that trust for a man.  Even Vlad hadn't earned that, and he had been the closest yet.

She had zero qualms about Erzulie's words, though, and nodded in complete agreement.  She softened some from both her touch and from the statement.  The pack would all have a hand in raising these children for sure, especially since Rosalyn had no idea how she would handle something like parenthood yet.  Help would be appreciated, even if not in the traditional sense that fatherhood might have brought.

She knew she and Erzulie would talk specifics later, but for now, she didn't have much to add aside from this.  Thank you.  She meant it, sincerely.

"t'ank you, firefly," erzulie murmured, watching as the man presumably moved away in search of other things to do. and when she believed him out of earshot, the chai-tea wolfess leant against her mate, sought to draw rosalyn's attention back to herself.
"will you min' if de children call him da?" it did not matter to erzulie, but her lover seemed to have tensed at the idea — if her wife wished, the jezebel wanted a discourse between the two of them.

With everything settled, and feeling like he had nothing left to contribute to their conversation - he took the thank-you as a dismissal and with a nod to Rosalyn, a small smile to Erzulie, he turned and made his departure. He didn't get too far before hearing murmurings from behind him but Firefly didn't feel it appropriate that he linger; they were likely discussing things among themselves, and if things should change they would certainly seek him out. For now he wondered about the role he would soon play in their lives - and yet, found himself distracted by a patrol swiftly enough, which would occupy him for some time.

Rosalyn watched as Firefly left, then turned to Erzulie as she followed the conversation up with a question.  She was glad, it was good to talk about it before they went into this, and she hadn't quite known how to approach it.

She paused for a minute before answering mainly because she wanted to express exactly what it was she felt about it.  Which was hard because first she had to sort out exactly how that was.  I'm not sure.  She finally went with, though she knew she needed to explain more.

I don't care what they call him so much as what it means.  I don't know him.  Not like she did Erzulie, and not any more than any others here.  I don't want him to feel ownership, or them to rely on him.  As she said it, she felt her first real swell of protective emotion towards the children they spoke of, and though it was extremely brief it surprised her.  I don't know if I trust him with that.

They could call him father if they wanted, and they could know.  But she wouldn't have him interfere with them, or try to express his own interests as men often did.  They were she and Erzulie's first and foremost, and she would chase him off herself before she saw him hurt them in any way.

a nod was given; erzulie too did not trust males, and for good reason, the both of them. "he cannot take dem from us," she murmured, seeking rosalyn's eyes. "caiaphas would not allow dat, and beyond her, we would kill him for it first."
but she did not think that firefly would do such a thing. the trade into which she had been brought as a girl had taught her many things about men, about the wickedness that lurked behind their eyes. and the scarred beast did not bear such malice, erzulie had decided. "we will be dere mot'ers," she went on lowly, placing her paw over rosalyn's own. "dey can call him da, but only we will be in charge of dem." it was for the best that firefly have no dominion over the children, for what could a man give that a mother could not?

The pirate did not have Erzulie's eye for reading others, but tended to go with her gut instead.  It did not tell her anything wrong about Firefly, but it did not say anything good either.  She didn't like leaving such a large portion of her on a tossup.

Erzulie's terms were ones she could meet though, and she nodded.  She doubted she would ever lose the instinctual need to be mobile should they ever need to cut and run, but now her exit would involve more than just she.  Selfishly she needed to keep that count as few as she could, and hold it privately, if only for her own sake.  She'd learned through this that it wasn't a habit her wife had.

We would kill him for it first.  Again that feeling, stronger this time. She pressed forward appreciatively, running her muzzle over her wife's soft forehead.  Their mothers, she said in confirmation, smiling.  They would never need anything else.
