All Welcome
for @Rosalyn and @Erzulie (i think those are the wolves were meeting :L)

@Bat was easy to travel with. not as easy as easy-- blackbear, whatever-- since bat tended to be a little slow. but he got it, she was pretty young-- at least, he assumed she was young. last time he met her she was like, an infant. not really, but, whatever. plus she was small-- not that tegan was giant... he was pretty average too (thanks, dad)...

he blinked, suddenly pulling himself from his rambling thoughts and glancing back at the tired bat. he couldn't tell if she was actively paying attention to what was going on or not, but he mostly was. they'd crossed onto the beach a little while back, ears pricked as he looked out for those wolves that caiaphas had asked him to find. he glanced to bat. "we're here, kiddo," he said, seafoam eyes scanning the ocean. tegan didn't like the ocean much, if we're being for real.

Bat's apprehension grew as they closed in on the sound. It was all she could do not to drag her feet as Tegan led the way onto the beach. To make matters worse, the sight of the quiet bay struck the Goufa—although she supposed she should shed that title too—with an unexpectedly poignant sense of homesickness. She missed the beachfront outside of Hougeda. She missed the damp, dark comfort of the cave itself. She missed @Kiwi, @Silkie and @Tux, as well as her older siblings. She even missed @Wildfire, much as she had come to internally resent her mother.

Most of all, she missed her nomi, and @Thuringwethil wasn't in Drageda anymore. That soured the bittersweet emotions swirling inside her. She tried to shut down her thoughts and focus on keeping up with Tegan as he began to comb the beach. He stopped to admire the sea and Bat, meanwhile, turned away to stare at one of the sheer walls hugging the sound's perimeters.

"When we get back to the Redhawks, I think I'm gonna go by Rory," she said to him, apropos of nothing, facing him to see what he thought.

vaguey vague on if Erzulie comes with!

A few wolves had come and go since they camped on the strand, but Rosalyn hadn't approached them.  She wasn't keen on running into trouble; her head still aches, and she hadn't had a whole lot of luck hunting since her ill-fated trip to the ravine.  The sea luckily provided a bit here and there, but hunger gnawed at her gut, and there was a sort of weary weight that had settled across her.

These new wolves were closer, though; close enough that their voices came to her from where she lay next to Erzulie, keeping watch.  Her ears tipped back and she considered ignoring them, turning her face away.  But then she sighed.  Better to confront than to have them happen upon them here, and who knew? Maybe they knew of help nearby, somewhere that wasn't Drageda.

She rose and stalked along the sand, coming to a stop only a short distance from what turned out to be a pair.  One seemed quite young, but had a pair of ears that actually brought a small, real smile to the pirate's lips.  "Lookin for something?" She asked, though it was nonchalant.  She had no claim on this place, and far as she could tell, neither did anyone else.

"oh yeah?" he began, about to ask her why when he was interrupted by someone's voice. tegan's head whipped around. damn he shoulda been looking at more than just the ocean-- but this lady apparently appeared out of thin air. he regarded her coolly, his tail holding steady behind him. well, she looked friendly enough, and what the fuck did tegan really care about danger anyhow? except that maybe he was now responsible for a child. maybe.

"yeah, actually," he said, turning to fully face the redhead, "my names tegan, this is rory, we're here on behalf of caiaphas of the red hawk clan, looking for her husband and kids." he looked at her curiously, a smirk turning at the edges of his lips, "somehow i doubt you're either of them, but if you know anything..."

Before Tegan could frame a proper response, a third party joined them on the beach. Bat nearly jumped out of her skin in fright, sure it was Wildfire come to collect her. She scooted closer to Tegan, pivoting to stand at his shoulder and face—a perfect stranger. Her limbs felt a little wobbly as the relief washed over her.

It took her a moment to catch up to what Tegan was saying to the unfamiliar she-wolf. She realized he'd introduced her by the new alias, which pleased her. She fought against the urge to smile and then laugh at his astute observation. Tegan was clearly playing it cool and Bat wanted to do the same. He was her role model now, after all.

In that vein, Bat had nothing to add. She was here to watch and learn.

Rosalyn was not prepared for not only one, but two of the last things she expected to come out of his mouth.  Not to mention in combination.  Immediately, the name Caiaphas drew a reaction, though it was involuntary. Her muzzle wrinkled some, though the second term surprised her enough that she recovered.

"No one's here," she responded, her distaste for her former rival tempered by her lingering gratitude towards their pack.  She hadn't forgotten their help, and had no idea their sentiments towards her for leaving.  "My companion and I have been here a few days and seen no one." That was a bit of a lie, yet true.  She'd heard some, but seen no one.  And she doubted any she heard were the witch's blood.

So she'd been chased from the shore by the beast and taken refuge with the Redhawks.  Seemed they had an affinity for picking up drifters from the coast.  "Has... Caiaphas.... been with you long?"  Her ears twisted back... a husband.  She'd made jokes about it, but what if they were true?  What if Vlad was the husband?  Then he was probably gone now, as gone as before.  And she found the thought hurt less now than it had; Erzulie, and the rest of the crew, had bound her up and left new, more recent wounds to replace them.

tegan shot bat a look when she got all babyish and tried hiding behind him, taking a big ol step to the side. the fuck? we're big body, don't fucking show your weaknesses holy shit. and damn. tegan shrugged at the red-ladies response, which was useless to him but... well, useful too, he guessed. he had information for caiaphas-- which was 'nah bitch, they gone.' whatever.

also, did this lady... seem interested? in caiaphas? in his mysterious sharp-faced woman? he noticed the way she looked when he'd mentioned her name, and he was now SUSPICIOUS. his head tilted. "a few months, yeah," tegan said, and then dove right into some juicy shit, "do you know her?"

The stranger's words were inordinately comforting to Bat. If she hadn't seen anyone, maybe that meant Wildfire wasn't in the area and the pup could relax. She made an attempt, right after she swept the entirety of the beach with her mercurial gaze.

Her big ears quivered with interest as the conversation got underway. Tegan had mentioned the details of his mission to her, yet Bat of course had no personal investment. Nonetheless, she followed along, curious about how this exchange played into scouting. If the situation didn't clarify itself, she could always ask her exemplar later.

a fever had swept the harlot, and left behind a rather bedraggled and angular creature. yet her infection had passed; walking did not pain erzulie half so much. her days were given over to rest, at rosalyn's insistence, and she was content to do so. the bear had not been sighted; he had not returned, and the chai-tea woman was at last able to find relaxation.
it was the absence of rosalyn that had wakened her; erzulie returned to a drowse, but came fully alert when she realized her lover had been gone longer than expected. a frown ghosted across her features; slowly the seawolf rose up and followed rosalyn's tracks through the sand.
it was upon the tail-end of the young male's voice that erzulie arrived, moving to her companion's side. a child with a set of ears that too brought a warm curve to her lips, one that faded when her mismatched gaze drifted to the boy. and then to rosalyn. once more favouring silence, she said nothing, content for now only to flank her lover.

Rosalyn no longer had much attention for the younger - all was focused on her conversation with Tegan.  "I knew her," she answered, and considered a good many other responses.  But something stopped her.  She had no love for her rival, and would always be game to drag her name through the mud; but what had happened here she wouldn't wish on her harshest enemy, let alone her longtime rival.  An unwelcome feeling of empathy kept her cutting words down, and she sighed softly.

"Rosalyn's my name.  I knew your pack, too, for a bit."  She left it at that.  A part of her wanted to say more, but honestly, what could she say that anyone there would care to hear?  She was next to nothing at this point.

Erzulie suddenly appeared, and Rosalyn felt her chest tighten a bit, as it had these past few days.  It had been too close, and her angular frame served a daily reminder of it.  She looked better, but Rosalyn still was anxious to have her up and about.  She'd been stretched taught for days now about pretty much everything.

"Redhawks, Erzulie.  Erzulie, Redhawks."  Introductions, and then a pause, to see if there was anything else this boy wanted.

tegan stared, wracking his brain. he didn't remember ever seeing this lady in his pack before... but then again, tegan really didn't pay that close attention to wolves that he didn't like... actively pursue. or, something. idk, tegan was allowed to be a little distant, alright?

anywho~

"hey," tegan said to the girl introduced, his tail waving once, "tegan-- rory." he figured he could sneak their names in there.

well, since that was all, tegan sighed and shrugged. "alright well, i guess we better go home-- thanks anyway, rosalyn, good to meet ya," he said, and then nosed bat. time to get back.

Her ears splayed when a figure suddenly appeared, just a few shades darker than the wet sands nearby. Bat studied the newest arrival even as Rosalyn provided introductions for them both. She looked thin, though the youth wasn't experienced enough to recognize the signs of an illness. Erzulie said nothing and Bat's attention eventually drifted back to Tegan as he drew the encounter to an abrupt close.

Her mouth opened and closed. Was that all there was to it? Tegan was nosing her now, pushing her to begin walking. The youth glanced at the two women for a beat. "Well... bye," she said, swiveling to follow after the older scout. It all felt a little anticlimactic, though Bat would have been lying if she'd said she wasn't pretty eager to put the sound—and its neighbor, Drageda—far behind them.

the odd pair were gone as soon as they had come, almost upon erzulie's arrival. she watched the redhawks quit their strip of beach impassively, and then turned now-warm eyes upon rosalyn. "what did dey want?" the harlot inquired, reaching her muzzle to disentangle salt from a few hairs along her lover's shoulder. it was of little true import to erzulie, though she felt she must know the comings and goings of wolves so long as they were to stay here.

She almost stopped him, as for some reason, the sudden urge to send some word me struck her.  She opened her mouth, but then abruptly shut it.  What would it get her?  'I'm sorry' would mean nothing to the witch.  Rosalyn wasn't sorry for how things had gone back then, only for the circumstances both were under now.  It seemed they'd both lost everything to a monster, and it was only this empathy that brought the words to her tongue.

"There was a pack here, once.  They wanted to know what happened to some."  She watched Tegan and Bat go thoughtfully.  "I told them none are left." She'd seen no trace of anyone living here at least.

"You're feeling better?" It was more statement than question, and she nosed her back appreciatively.  It was good to see; even though she still worried, at least it was clear her lover was recovering.  For a while she'd felt real fear, and it wasn't an emotion she felt often or enjoyed.

rosalyn's answer was succinct, as was the nature of her lover. erzulie for a long moment was content simply to exist beneath the woman's touch. "i am," came her soft rejoinder; gaze lifted to caress the lovely features of the corsair, flickering with her continued desire, even in the face of her own weakness.
"shall we be movin' on den?" erzulie inquired, though the conversation was not her immediate focus. hunger clawed audibly at her belly; she mocked herself with a small smirk before moving off across the sand in the direction of the water, slowly enough to keep pace with her lover. they could both use a meal and a respite from the company of abrupt strangers.

She was glad, then.  Maybe the time to move on was coming.  They still didn't know if the bear would return, and staying here was tempting fate.  Better to find a new home, somewhere maybe with others who wouldn't turn them away as Drageda had.

They could talk about that later though.  For now, she nodded, and allowed Erzulie to lead the way.  As they went, she glanced back in the direction the two had gone.  That was always an option too, though the thought of being so far from the shore wasn't ideal in the least.
