"Feeling it?" Towhee guessed as she watched Vesper, the corner of her mouth twitching. "I'll go through a few other poses," she said in the next breath, doing exactly that. She began with upward dog, since it was an easy transition from child's pose, then it only made sense to go over downward dog after that.

After demonstrating, Towhee straightened up onto all fours to explain, "The poses are just one part of it. This takes practice—tons of practice, in my experience—but as you perform the different poses, you try to regulate your breathing and sort of clear your mind. It can be pretty challenging at first but, shit, if I can do it, anybody can."

The Sovereign glanced toward the horizon, where the sun had fully sunk out of view now. The sky was a bright shade of red off toward the west and much dimmer off to the east. Towhee felt a sense of contentment welling inside her as she breathed in the cool evening air, still relishing being home after being away so long.
