Towhee didn’t know what to say to that, though it didn’t matter. Phox and Towhee Jr captured Meerkat’s attention, leaving Towhee to melt into the backdrop for a few minutes. She would be a big, fat liar if she said she hadn’t considered that—among all sorts of various scenarios—but she tabled it, for now.

There was something magical about watching Meerkat interacting with Jr, even if her elder daughter’s rusty Ptero earned a tsk! from Towhee. She folded down into a sphinx pose, eyes sparkling as she waited to see how her stoic little mini-me would handle her sweet big sister.
