"Thanks, Hydra," she added aloud before turning swiftly and loping back toward the territory's center. En route, the howls changed tune, announcing Lucca's safe return. Towhee couldn't hear that, of course, but felt her white-streaked shoulders sag in relief when she came home to the sight of a happy family reunion.
