Avicus broke from the ranks and leapt for the deer's throat. Lilia felt grateful for her swift action- the buck had vegun to challenge the wolves on either side of him, and could have broken free from their snare if Avicus hadn't gone on the offensive. Lilia leapt and grabbed for a spot high on the creature's leg, and was elbowed out of the way through her teeth tore through pelt and muscle. She bolted ahead again, but by this point, Avicus had been shaken free and the buck needed to be brought down.

The force from Augur's body slamming into the buck was enough to give her the chance to sneak forward again. Augur found the animal's shoulder, and moved toward its throat. Lilia leapt to grab the animal by its withers, hoping to use her weight to pull the animal toward herself and to the ground, as it was now weighed down by three wolves.

last round! please get any posts you want to in @Prophet @Augur @New Snow @Ashlar @Masquerade @Redd @Relic @Lilia @Reki @Bobcat

she rises to see Masquerade coming toward her and she shakes her head, blood and spittle flying—

go! go— she manages, finding her footing again and surging after the elk. there is no quitting here; she'll carry on, with or without the long-tailed daughter by her side.

kill! she shrieks into the wind and finally catches up the prey and its hangers-on, ripping incessantly at the soft spot between belly and rear legs. it's floundering now, weighed down, bleating its last into the winter air.

she tears until she sees nothing but red, and eventually, the quarry stumbles and sighs, falling into noncommital retreat, its life-blood pouring out onto the snow.

she does not hesitate to tear it asunder.
but see, amid the mimic rout,
a crawling shape intrude —
a blood-red thing that writhes from out
the scenic solitude

Redd was alongside in the killing though she did not finish the job.

When Wealda fell she glanced to see Masquerade there… and looked no further.  Her sister would do what was needed to help as the pack finished the job.

She was too caught in the chase, and in worrying at its hindquarters, to realize her mother was back and took it down.  She had latched into a hip and held firm as it buckled beneath them, dragged down to nothing beneath their numbers.

figure I’ll toss in a finish to get her in the log <3 but this is her only post

the animal was downed.

the wolves came to finish.

when the kicking had ceased and red woman began their feast, the hunt-leader hung back, watchful over their kill. he did not think there were others strong enough to take it from them.

but he watched all the same.

later, after they had sprawled to rest for a time, augur would join red woman, seeking to search her with concerned chuffs until he had satisfied himself that she was not harshly injured.

They had their answer when Avicus surged back to her feet and went after the buck with a clipped command to, “Go!” Still slightly bewildered, Masque spun and did as they were told, heeling to the Wealda as she caught up with their prey.

He didn’t stand a chance under the onslaught of the pack. Masquerade shouldered their way in among the roiling bodies and snatched their teeth wherever they could reach to add to the bloodletting. The buck was torn apart—perhaps even killed—before he even fell to the ground.

Masquerade knew their place, which was near the bottom of the heap. They backpedaled away from the sagging carcass to await their turn, licking blood from their chops. They would feast when their turn came, long tail twitching as they watched Avicus beforehand and afterward.

The bloodcurdling command came, and as the creature fell sideways, Lilia gripped the animal by the back of its neck, high near its crown and sank her teeth in there. Furiously, she shook her head from side to side. She was likely too small and light to have the power to snap its neck, but in the very least, she felt certain she was keeping it pinned, and less likely to kick while the others tore it open.

With hungry growls she moved in when the leaders had had their fill; she would tear into the meal, satisfied that they had brought down a feast that would feed all of them.

The prey weakened. Fell to it's knees. Bled out. Gave up the fight from the pressure of so many pairs of jaws. With a savage toss of his skull, Relic tore the throat open. The last gust of air washing hotly over his bloodied face.

The pack had succeeded in their task. A fine meal for everyone. As ravenous as he was, he waited his turn in line. Deferring to his leaders, his elders, who would eat first. And when his turn came, he filled his belly with glutton.

New Snow watches the hunt with her son. And it seems, even despite her injury, she is in it from afar—her muscles flex, she stretches outward to snap at air—and New Snow looks to her son, wondering if he would be as taken by the hunt as she and his own father were. New Snow was not an unaffectionate woman, and if permitted would give her son a kiss across the face with an encouraging whine. It will be you hunting with the rest, soon!

Once the hunt was done, she limps toward the pack. New Snow waits for her own turn to eat, but only wrinkles her muzzle toward any who step out of line. She is too much of a pushover with those still young to correct them with teeth, especially if their tongues find her own cheek, but New Snow intends to teach them (albeit gently) now that many had grown out of their puppy privilege.

When done, she limps over to her leaders and offers them congratulatory chuffs and presses against them to acquire their scents merrily, before ending up alongside her man and sniffing at him too to seek that all was well. When she realized it was, she pressed her head against his own.
