When the intruder escaped into the distance, Towhee could only stand there, catching her breath and reeling. She could not comprehend how a wolf—even one the size of an elephant, like that guy—could run away under his own power after being outnumbered by a pack of trained soldiers.

Her orange eyes roved around until they found the Imperator. He gave her a look and she could only stare back at him in dismay. Towhee said nothing, though she did return his nod and then reluctantly shadowed his footsteps back to Mereo.
