It was time to depart their mountain home for the hunt, and Reverie found herself unprepared. She fretted over her den in their final moments in the willows, carefully arranging every detail to perfection in lieu of panicking. Her husband would be with her, and this was no small comfort, but still — when had she become such a homebody?

She wore a cheerful mask nonetheless as they carved a path through the mountains, chatting with Boone and the others here and there; speculating about the other packs, about what they might find on the opposite side of the Sunspire. When they descended into the vale, however, she grew quiet. Reverie was overtaken with a wide-eyed sort of awe, parting from her husband's side for the first time to dart among the trees and sniff all that she could reach with tail waving high in the air. She was breathless by the time she returned.

I think we should rest here for the night, She said to him, quiet enough to allow Boone the final decision.

the scent of epoch had gone stale.
in the days leading up to their travels, he had left the care of the willows to those who decided to stay behind. reverie fretted — boone was overwhelmed. but this was their chance to cement themselves and their presence. to find allies and not have to weather the harsh season alone.
but the vale was empty.
boone did not know what had become of the mountain wolves. he supposed, soon enough, they might find out.
reverie darts around before he can even have the chance to stop her and he wonders for a moment if he should have put her on a leash. he is eager to find somewhere flat after hours of trekking rugged terrain.
this'll do.

Mae still hadn't really spoken to either of the leaders. It was a surprise, then, when she was invited to attend the hunt where so many other packs would be gathered. She'd half-expected to be booted from the willows.

Her first instinct had been to reject the offer — but that hadn't seemed like the wisest move if she wanted to stay a member of Hearthwood. And she did, in spite of everything. Mae was introspective enough to know that it was guilt which kept her away from Reverie and Boone, not hatred or apathy. So she trailed after them, keeping mostly to herself as they traveled.

She did take a moment to stop and watch Reverie's antics with a quirk of her brow, though. A leader who acted half a child; such a stark contrast from the rigid leadership of Swiftcurrent Creek. Mae was beginning to realize that Reverie was not quite as practical as she'd assumed. Boone, at least, hung back. Mae glanced at him and wondered if he was annoyed by it. Well. Not her problem.

At Boone's word she parted to find a place to rest, finally recognizing this place as familiar. Hadn't she been here before? The thought made her feel sick, so she pushed it away. But it would continue to nag her throughout the night, until early in the morning when she woke with a gasp and remembered all at once — that boy. The one who'd tried to kill her.

She was eager to leave when the time came.

Kyrell had been more than interested when it was brought to his attention of the invitation. Hearthwood was still in its infancy and bolstering the claim and organizing its members took precedence over group hunts. He flanked the group as they traveled. Drfiting from remaining close to wandering several yards away. Alert and rapidly taking in the new scents as they traveled.

Upon entering the vale he lowered his nose to the ground. Wolf scent lingered, but it had gone stale. Kyrell's mind thought back to the hushed willows, wondering how the absence of more than half the pack would effect their own claim. He turned his attention to the rest of Hearthwood's hunting party. Reverie's excitement, Mae's tension, and Boone's contemplation. With a languid stretch Kyrell circled back to the group, offering a beat of his tail as Boone confirmed for them to stay.

Kyrell would explore the nearby grounds of their camp before turning in for the night to rest himself. Perhaps he would come back and explore it further another day.
