Redhawk Caldera her lips are stained red

She hadn’t left the den save to relieve herself, though Towhee ventured a little further today. She didn’t go far, just to the top of the little hillock over the Hobbit Hole. She could very clearly see the small grave @Hotah had so gently dug for their son, the fresh earth carefully patted down where his tiny body rested. She placed a paw on the dirt, cool and wet to the touch, then moved to return to the den.

As she plodded downhill, she saw @Killdeer loping toward a distant ridge-line, his figure quickly dipping out of sight as he presumably made his way to the borders. Towhee thought nothing of it, at least until she saw Ghost winging that way too. She paused in her step to ponder that, then hastened toward the Hobbit Hole’s entrance to find the first hearing individual she could nab.

Killer had responded to a call, someone informed her, though they weren’t sure of the voice. Towhee nodded and returned to her pups, holding her breath until she saw that all three were lively and squirming. She settled down beside them, nosing them toward her teats to suckle, but kept her orange eyes trained on the den’s large mouth.

A little while later, Killdeer’s face appeared there—alongside her own. Towhee inhaled sharply and jerked, wishing to rush to her lookalike to grab her into a tight hug. But she didn’t dare disturb the trio of infants currently attached to her. Decidedly stuck, she motioned emphatically for Jr to come hither.
