Towhee said nothing as he explained a bit about his past, though her upper teeth sank gently into her lower lip when he mentioned ghosts for company. He almost certainly meant metaphorically, though his words stirred a strange feeling within her. Her specters had vanished, if they’d ever really been there, and she still couldn’t decide whether or not she’d enjoyed their company.

Hotah quickly lightened the mood again by returning to the topic of marmots. Towhee nodded, motioning for him to follow as she turned to lead the way into the territory, whereupon she discovered she had a ghostly companion after all! The Elder bobbed her head at Trailhawk, a twitch of her tail inviting the she-wolf to fall into step with them.
