All Welcome
Rodyn missed Samani. It was becoming harder and harder to continue to act fine, but he was doing his best. He visited her as much as time would allow, but he waited breathlessly for the days when she would return to their home between forest and sea.

Today he looked for distraction in a hunting trip. He sought out the large forest where the ravens cawed and he wound himself through the forest dark and deep. Russet paws and body gentle steps upon the moss. Yellow eyes swerving from one shadow to the next. Nose to the ground and then up. Sniffing, searching, hoping. There had to be something worth his while in here.

Perhaps it was shared grief which drew the pair of wolves across each other's paths. Reverie too was hunting; she too was missing someone, though her someone was still there physically. It was only that his presence was hollow, and she could hardly cope without the warmth she'd come to expect from him.
Even from here, the song of the sea was overwhelming. Sometimes she thought it was getting louder... but that couldn't be right, could it? Water couldn't sing anyway, and so she dismissed it as nonsense for as long as she could. Still, it distracted her. Enough that she was startled when she laid eyes on a tall russet wolf, who for a terrible moment reminded her very much of Riordan. But the eyes were different, as were so many other things about him, and so after a second of shocked pause she relaxed and chuffed a greeting.

Had Rodyn known that he was being compared to a nasty wolf. It would have hurt his gentle hunter's heart. he didn't like to cause anyone strife, even with good intentions. Samani was still with him physically too, just not in the same vicinity of space.

Due to his nature, he was quickly aware that another was near him. He twisted and studied with ears erect and a small smile on his face. He dipped his muzzle down in greeting and wagged his russet tail.

Hello!

She brightened at his friendly greeting, offering a smile of her own. Once again she decided not to bother with attempting to talk to him; instead she made a beckoning gesture and a show of sniffing around the forest floor. Reverie was determined to hunt before she returned home.
With company, perhaps she could manage something a bit bigger than usual. She paused to eye him for a moment, to see if he would accept her silent invitation. It wasn't as if she could stand around talking anyway.

There was a brightening to her countenance when he spoke, but she didn't return his greeting other than a gesture of hello. Then she motioned for him to follow her to the floor, sniffing.

Ah so maybe she doesn't speak. Was his only thought. So he nodded and did as she wanted.

He bent forward, body sliding easily back into a hunter's crouch. Yellow eyes searching, searing the gloom of the forest and its shadows. And he followed the scent he'd been seeking, though he veered towards the small scent of deer. There were two of them, they could at least stake them out and see if they were comfortable chasing them. If not he could also smell, weasel and other ermine's in the vicinity.

Her gaze lingered gratefully on him for a moment before Reverie allowed the nameless hunter to take the lead. The scent of deer came into focus, and she felt a slow-burning light begin to fill all of her veins. She wondered distantly if this was the same herd Vairë had refused to pursue into the cursed forest.
But they followed the trail and soon there was no time for such thoughts. Soon Reverie was confronted again with the reality of hunting. Blood. Death. She slowed, eyeing one of the youngest, and shot a glance at her hunting companion. The decision would be his, but Reverie thought they would be hard-pressed to pursue one of the older members of the herd.

Rodyn didn't know this hunter well. So he was understandably cautious. He saw the deer in front of them and quickly assessed. They would go for one of the younger does. That hadn't been alive for long enough to learn the trick of predators. He crouched and spoke softly.

I can dispatch or chase you let me know just by starting whichever you prefer and I'll adjust.

Then he smiled and waited. He realized she couldn't speak, but she could certainly show him what she planned. He imagined she'd want to chase and he could dispatch, and kill.

Reverie nodded once, and started forward. Her approach was slow at first, careful to avoid alerting the herd to her presence until she felt she was close enough. She angled herself toward some of the young does she'd seen Rodyn watching, and when the distance had dwindled sufficiently and the deer started to shuffle in the beginnings of alarm, Reverie darted forward in a flash of gold.
She hung back just a little, keeping out of reach just in case one of them kicked at her. Reverie had seen what a well-aimed hoof could do to a wolf's skull. Now it was only a matter of biding her time, keeping up the chase until one of the does faltered or stumbled and her companion caught up. She could draw this out as long as she needed to.

She was quick to move into position and lucky for her Rodyn was very skilled at hunting. He better be as much as he worked at it.

So as she angled herself towards the deer. He too moved into a position to burst from cover as the beasts ran.

As they began to run. Rodyn let them get a bit away so he could assess and then he raced towards the doe in the back who seemed to be lagging behind. What it was that caused her to lag, he wasn't sure yet, but she was slower than the other's. So with Reverie pushing them forward. He circled to cut this one off. Hoping that she would notice and give time to help too.

Jumping upwards he crashed teeth against her throat and drug her down. Reverie helping at the side. It didn't take long before the doe lay beneath them only the nerves dying.
