Moonspear shelter

oh, but she had deserved it. she thought of jarilo. how she ached for him in each moment. it was not as it had been with the seal hunter, but kukutux had been far younger then. the blackfox was a leader within moonspear. she was wife of a chieftain. her daughter esteemed. her son blessed. blood-bound now to the ostrega family and the lineage that knew no age.

and yet she had not been able to stifle the knot in her breast at knowing he, and arcturus, had left moonspear and would not return. arcturus, to live some semblance of a life that broke his branch from the tree of their family; he would have no children. and revui — she turned her gaze downward as hydra spoke. a distant woman in a distant valley, raising his blood.

softly she looked up and up, and sighed heavily into the face of her sister. "you have done what you were able to do, kallak. men must find their own way. even if they are brother." she could not forever be responsible for what was the nature of males to seek out their own lands and their own wives. jarilo had remained, and had been blessed for it. she considered wraen, for whom arcturus had torn off the entirety of his connection to their mountain.

the words empty and hollow as the places in her soul that they had both carved, but perhaps that was the price she must give for her inability to truly be devoted to jarilo. her affections grew each moon, and she cursed her own fickle emotions for what they had wrought between she and the men who should have rightfully been her brothers.
