some evil spirit had come in the days past and sickened kukutux. she found herself rising several times at night from @Jarilo's side, only to find sickness in her gorge, and very little food was able to settle upon her churning stomach. only the fatted flesh of the beaver quelled the illness; otherwise, kukutux kept confined to her small clearing, weakly performing the tasks she knew must be completed.  

today marked the lessening of her swallowed wickedness; the little duck rose gratefully, happy to leave the protection of moonspear behind for a brief time. beneath her paws, rock thinned to grass and then to mossy stone; she crouched beside the sunlit surface of the lake seen from the peak and lapped at its coolness. blinking in exhaustion, kukutux settled herself upon the bank, turning her fatigued gaze upon the water.

might try and use this as a trade thread if possible! :)

 

per usual, the girl waded in the shallow waters of the lake's edge, hunting among the plant life in search of more hemlock. successful in finding only one stem in her previous search, scylla was not satisfied with the low number of toxic plants she had in her possession. as somewhat of a curator of such things -- ambition drove her to salvage as many indelicate valuables she could. so many healing herbs but scarce were the other kind available. the dark-haired girl didn't care for that.

it took her quite some time to notice the woman lapping half-heartedly at the banks of the lake. tired not near dead, scylla gathered as she continued to observe. but yet -- it was hard to tell. curiosity lifted her from the water and towards the other, against her better judgement but curious nonetheless. are you in pain? stoic optics bore into the woman's collapsed form, studying the other in a way a doctor might scrutinze its patient through the lens of medical purposes.

her eyelids had just begun to shift shut when a firm voice sounded. kukutux opened her gaze to see a dark woman striding toward her, tone brisk and no-nonsense. like lya, the girl decided, attempting for manners' sake to look more alert. "i am only tired, iglaak," she murmured in answer.

a strange protectiveness had taken root in her heart, silent until now it spoke. kukutux sat up, eyeing the newcomer with a watchful quality to her look. "what is your name?" perhaps she too was an ostrega, though she did not have their great build. a difference to her as well, hard in another way.
